"Extremely Disappointing Stay at Hôtel Capucines, Saint‑Tropez — Completely Overpriced and Misleading
Our experience at Hôtel Capucines in Saint‑Tropez was far below expectations and absolutely not worth the high price. While it’s advertised as a 4-star hotel, what we encountered was more in line with a 2- or low 3-star property — at best.
No Flexibility for Travel Disruptions
Due to a national air traffic controller strike in France, our flight was delayed, and we missed the first three nights of our reservation. Despite this being completely outside our control, and despite providing proof, the hotel refused to issue any refund or compensation. There was no understanding, no flexibility, and frankly, no customer care.
Extremely Rude and Unhelpful Staff
When we arrived with a child and several heavy bags, the front desk refused to help with our luggage. One receptionist was outright rude and said, “We can’t carry your luggage — either do it yourself or find someone else.” That’s not just poor service — it’s a complete lack of basic hospitality.
Stairs Inside the Room
One of the rooms had a long internal staircase, which was not mentioned during booking. It was extremely inconvenient and unsafe, especially with a child. No elevator access to the room made the stay even more uncomfortable.
False Advertising — Not a Junior Suite
We booked Junior Suites, but what we received was basically a standard, outdated bedroom. There was nothing “suite-like” about it. If this is how the Junior Suite looks, I can’t imagine how poor the basic rooms must be. The category is completely misleading.
Poor Hygiene & Maintenance
One of the first things we noticed was a spider on the bed. That alone is unacceptable in any hotel, let alone one charging luxury rates. The rooms are also outdated, poorly maintained, and in urgent need of renovation.
No Water in Rooms After Cleaning
Housekeeping did not replace water bottles, and when we asked, we were told to go to reception to collect water ourselves. At this level of hotel, that’s simply unacceptable.
Limited & Insensitive Breakfast
Breakfast was minimal and disappointing. Worse, the hotel served ham and eggs in the same hot dish, with no separation. This is completely inconsiderate for guests who do not eat pork or prefer vegetarian options. No effort was made to accommodate dietary needs.
Terrible Value for Money
We paid nearly €21,700 for two rooms — an amount you’d expect to pay at a world-class 5-star resort. In fact, we stayed in a real 5-star hotel during the same trip for the same price, and the experience there was on an entirely different level. Hôtel Capucines did not come close.
Final Verdict:
Hôtel Capucines is dramatically overpriced, falsely advertised, and run without care or professionalism. The service is rude, the rooms are subpar, and the amenities are lacking. We strongly advise anyone considering this hotel in Saint‑Tropez to look elsewhere — your money and peace of mind deserve better."
