"I stayed at Wakeup Copenhagen, Carsten Niebuhrs Gade, from 20–23 September 2026, in room 549. During my stay, I saw an insect on the mattress. After leaving, I developed severe itching and painful, swollen skin reactions. I suffered sleepless nights, required a hospital visit and medication, and was unable to work for a full week. The hotel subsequently confirmed in writing that a professional pest-control inspection had identified signs of bedbug activity in my room. It said appropriate treatment had been arranged. Despite these findings and the impact I reported, the hotel refunded only 50% of the DKK 4,437 I paid and declined my request for a full refund. The management response made this distressing experience worse. The general manager suggested that my email amounted to “blackmail” after I requested further redress and mentioned sharing a factual account. He later declined to provide the inspection findings and treatment details I requested. I also found the breakfast area dirty, with stained tables. I found the handling of my complaint dismissive and unacceptable. I cancelled my future reservations and would not return. Supporting documentation is available privately upon request."
