"Here’s a strong, detailed version that stays firmly factual while making the failure crystal clear.
Extremely poor experience. We arrived to find we had neither the parking nor the pet-friendly room we had every reasonable expectation of having.
A few days before our stay, I telephoned 66 Guldsmeden specifically to ask about parking. I explained that our vehicle is approximately 1.95 metres high and asked whether it would fit in their on-site car park. The receptionist told me that it would. I then said that, on that basis, I would go online immediately and book two nights at the hotel.
At no point during that telephone conversation did the receptionist tell me that the parking space itself had to be separately reserved.
We arrived today, after travelling to Copenhagen with our luggage and our Labrador, only to be told at reception that we did not have a parking reservation and that there were no spaces available. We were directed towards alternative parking some distance away, which is hardly convenient when arriving with luggage and a dog.
Unfortunately, that turned out to be only the first problem.
We were then told that we could not have a room because there were apparently no pet-friendly rooms available.
This is extraordinary.
We originally found the hotel through Booking.com, where it is clearly advertised as pet-friendly. We then discovered that it was cheaper to book directly through the hotel's own website, so we left Booking.com and booked directly with the hotel.
There was nothing obvious during the direct booking process to warn us that simply booking a room at a hotel advertised as pet-friendly did not actually mean that our dog could stay in that room, or that only a limited number of rooms were allocated for guests with pets.
Had this been made clear, we would obviously have booked appropriately or chosen another hotel.
The same applies to the parking. We specifically telephoned in advance, explained the size of the vehicle and were told that it would fit. Surely that was the ideal moment for the receptionist to say, "Yes, but you must reserve the parking space separately."
Instead, after travelling all the way to Copenhagen, we arrived to discover:
• No parking space
• No pet-friendly room
• No ability to stay as planned
For a hotel marketing itself as pet-friendly, this is an astonishingly poor booking experience.
If there are only certain rooms in which dogs are permitted, that needs to be made exceptionally clear during the hotel's own direct booking process. Likewise, if on-site parking must be booked separately, staff should make that clear when a prospective guest specifically telephones to ask about the parking before making their reservation.
Guests should not have to discover these conditions when they are standing at reception with their luggage, their dog and nowhere to stay.
We deliberately booked directly with the hotel rather than through Booking.com because we believed we were dealing more directly with the property and would therefore receive clearer information, not less.
The whole situation was completely avoidable and has left us extremely disappointed.
Based on our experience, I would strongly advise anyone travelling with a dog or requiring parking to obtain written confirmation of both before booking this hotel. Do not assume that "pet-friendly" means your booked room will accept your pet, and do not assume that being told the hotel has suitable parking means a space will actually be available when you arrive.
A thoroughly frustrating and unacceptable experience. If you want, I can also make it even sharper and more brutal for Google Reviews, while keeping it legally safer by sticking entirely to what happened."
