"Overall, the experience at the Marriott was fine, but I'm likely to find an alternative next time I am in Copenhagen.
Pros:
- Location: The hotel is located in the city centre and is easily walkable to all the places of interest, eg Tivoli Gardens, Nyhaven, etc. That said, as other reviewers have pointed out, this is a "business"y part of the city, and even though all these places are close, you're not really in the thick of things as it were.
- Food and drinks: There was a good selection of food and drinks at breakfast and in the bar and restaurant, all good quality too.
Bar area: The bar area is lovely, right by the water and has a large outdoor terrace. The hotel also provides bathrobes and slippers, as well as a sauna on the terrace, for those who fancy swimming!
Cons:
- Inconsistent service: A couple of incidents stand out. Firstly, travelling with my mum and sister, we were all sharing a family room. The booking was in my mother's name, however my sister arrived first so was the first to check in. Despite already submitting all our names when we booked and her presenting her ID, the front desk wouldn't let her check in until I emailed them confirming that she could check in (despite the booking not being in my name either?). I travel very regularly and this is the first i've ever heard of this policy, and certainly the first time this has happened in a Marriott property. Furthermore, when my sister went to pay the "hold" that they put on cards, they only told her after her card was declined that they don't support that specific card (I think it was a Maestro?). I understand that this can happen (not everyone checks what kind of card it is before the transaction) and it was resolved easily as she had other cards, but after already treating her poorly and inventing this email policy, this just added insult to injury.
The second incident was on our fourth night. We decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant so went to the front desk to make the reservation. There, they took our booking no problem - I saw the chap write down our name, room number, no of people, and time on the reservation sheet. When we came down for dinner, they had no record of our reservation. And needless to say, they were now fully booked for the evening. They tried to seat us in the reception area where it was one long bench with small, low coffee tables and only after I said that this would not be acceptable, did the manager get involved and had a table moved from the breakfast area so they could seat us. We appreciate that they accommodated us, but it was a poor experience to start from.
- Rooms: The rooms are pretty tired design-wise and the wear-and-tear is evident. The bathroom taps are pretty worn and flimsy so it's very hard to get the right spot between extremely hot and extremely cold. The TV has a few channels on it, but no modern features like netflix or screen casting. Nothing that's a huge dealbreaker, but definitely evident.
So as stated, a spectrum of pros and cons, but I'll likely look for a different place on my next visit."
