"A beautiful hotel located next to the Charles Bridge in Prague. I stayed for 2 nights and hope to give a fair opinion.
Pros:
- Dominique and Oxana from front desk, Beate from cafe and the food manager, evening front desk British guy(super cool) welcomed me to this beautiful property. They are all an amazing team and very welcoming and positive. This whole thing is run by a few people and most of them are amazing.
- I was given a bigger room as requested for an upgrade which had a lot of charm and potential and a private balcony which I did appreciate a lot.
- There was a welcome amenity of bottle of wine and a mini bar with soft drinks, etc which was also quite nice to have.
- The mattress is comfortable for a good night sleep for dark hours and the property is quiet in the evening even with its central location.
- Location of this place is amazing, you walk to the Charles bridge in under 2 mins. It is an old Pachta palace which has been partly renovated and partly not.
- Interiors courtyards, the walking gallery and other common parts of the hotel are really beautiful, room I got which was called the "Royal suite" or " Pachta palace Suite". The room itself was fine, the history of the place is what makes it special and that is been told by every staff member each time you have a question about the place.
Space to improve:
- I think the room was quite badly maintained, there was glass on the first night in bathroom that got in my foot, and to my utter bad fortune I broke a glass next morning which could not be clean after 3 attempts .
- The wooden floors are severely broken and the personally I have stayed in over 1200, 5 star hotels and over 200 heritage properties, but never received a room in such quality. The washbasin was cracked, the toilet walls were damaged with holes, the bathroom area has a shower with no curtain, no exhaust in bathroom. Small mini fridge is very loud. It was an upgrade but I was paying almost 500 euros for 2 nights and it was not worth it honestly. If it was not for the kind staff, I would give 2 stars for the room alone. I respect the history of the place but if your room is not up kept in a 5 star manner, which many other rooms including fresco rooms and the rooms in renovated parts were really nicely kept(and were available on the day as I checked online later, but not offered to me); it is not worth it for this particular room. I think this experience could have been much better and not this unfortunate, if they gave a better room and renovated room. I was shown an alternative room in deluxe category but it was also quite old and stuffy honestly, I walked out in 30 seconds of being in there.
- No bathtub in "suite", no swimming pool(understandable history), BLACK MOULD in shower area(have pictures), bugs coming out of toilet and bathroom each day, low quality amenities, I mean no offence to Rituals toiletries but this is not a 3 star hotel so please quit that. Cheap tiles in the bathroom and toilet of the room. The bathrobes have seen better days please get new ones.
- No turn down service, and NO BLINDS in the room, it is bright early morning and the staff was surprised I wanted to have closed curtains, this is something every 5 star has, a turn down service, you cannot have bright rooms with bad curtains and no blinds. Not every one sleeps deep.
- This hotel has a lot of potential, I mean incredible location, most of the staff great but because they don't have any branding from ACCOR yet, all the faults can be visibly seen if you are a regular to Accor. Once branding will come a certain level of service would be expected and hopefully provided by the management.
All in all a fantastic location, a great property with a lot of potential, definitely not a 5 star yet, but has the potential to be one of the best places in Prague, provided right approach and correct branding and some input to amenities and outlook. I do wish to see how this place grows and hopefully visit it again on my next trip to see the improvements. I sincerely thank all the team members who were friendly.
I am writing this again here and want to make it clear that there were better rooms in the hotel, and as they mentioned the historical place has challenges to renovate, basic hygiene of mould and broken things on floors and cracked washbasins are not in code of archaeological upgrades once they have been installed in the recent years, which is the case here. Also, late check out was not a confusion, however frustrating, I do give my review unbiased and honestly, as always."
