"Booked this online largely due to the very good reviews they have and I can see why. Emailed in advance with some room requests which were mostly granted. Yabsera was quick to respond which was helpful. I did mention the holiday was to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary but they didn't acknowledge this only in the email, no nice little surprise for them on arrival sadly.
I asked for a high floor, quiet location, a nice view and close together. We were put on the 4th floor so not really high ( there is 10 floors) but we did have a nice view of the city. The location was very quiet I heard no outside noise at all the only thing was the heavy slam doors but I know there is a reason for this The rooms were next door to each other so very close.
The reception staff were pleasant enough most notably Michael and Roberto. The air conditioning wasn't great and whilst Michael could't really do much about that he kindly provided a fan and some free drink vouchers. He was very empathetic, friendly and helpful, he is a credit to the hotel.
We booked 2 large mama rooms, one twin, one double. They are fairly spacious for one if I was a couple I would probably try and book a larger room unless you are only their to rest your head. The decor was quirky and cool. The masks on the lamps a cool touch.
The lighting was soft and ambient which I liked. The rooms had large windows which was great. The bathroom though small had an amazing rainfall shower with good pressure, I looked forward to that shower each day.
There are no coffee and tea facilities in the room which I would expect in a 4 star hotel so we took our own. The room was clean however randomly there were a few dead bugs on the wall which was odd. The daily housekeeping was done to standard but nothing exceptional.
The wifi was good, there was water on arrival which was appreciated as we arrived late but this was not topped up daily but there is a handy Lidl next door. There is no iron but you can get this on request. Storage is very limited but we managed. There is a fridge also which is handy to have.
The TV is large with chromecast but it didn't work so sadly whilst I could not stream from my device I made the most of the free movies and Mama playlist which were fab.
The location of the hotel is good, a 30 minute walk or short tram ( right outside the hotel) and you would be in the centre.
Breakfast is lovely, most staff were very pleasant and the food was great. It did get very busy so if you want it quieter maybe try early or later on. You could sit outside on the lovely terrace but there was few too many angry wasps to do this ( just the time of year though). The music they play during breakfast is perfect, it set a really relaxing vibe.
The only thing that spoilt it was on the last day one of the trainees was quite rude to my mum which was unnecessary. It was our last day and it wasn't busy so it was a bad impression to leave. If he carries on behaving towards customers that way he might want to rethink if a career in hospitality is for him. Lack of knowledge I don't mind at all, but not offering to find out or slamming tables together isn't acceptable in my opinion. However as i say the rest of the staff made up for it as they were pleasant.
Sandra was the best on the bar by far another credit to the hotel. She was friendly, helpful and just a joy. We had pizzas ( a decent price) on the lovely cosy terrace one evening. She was our server and she was delightful.
All in all we are glad we chose this hotel. I loved the quirkiness of it, it was clean and the staff had a nice vibe.
The unique little touches in the toilets and in the lobby were great. It was my first time at a Mama Shelter and I was impressed. I would recommend and I would happily stay again."
