Alqush Downtown Hotel

"We booked a short city break with BA holidays. The Alqush hotel is rated as 4 star but in my opinion is really 3 star. The room was very spacious as was the bathroom. The entire hotel is spotless. There is always somebody on reception. The decor is turn of the 20th century and the rooms have the original high ceilings and mouldings and the decor really suits them. However, there is no real comfort in the rooms, the pillows are flat and the duvets quite small. The hotel is on a busy street in terms of traffic and as we were at the front, heard a lot of traffic, but it is safe to walk around at night. Breakfast is sufficient and reasonably varied. The staff are efficient but not particularly outgoing. The bar is a small ante room almost and not one to have a drink in before going out. The cost of the entire trip via BA was around £900 for flights and hotel (breakfast included) which explains why the Alqush is used by BA for a package deal. I wouldn't stay here again but that's more to do with the location as we'd rather stay on the far side of the Charles Bridge now we've walked around the city. It's a 20 minute walk to Wencelas Square and it's lovely to walk down Legerova Street in the morning looking at the architecture. All in all, if you just want a base and are not bothered by extras or need a lot of comfortable add on's, it's perfectly fine."

"We were allocated a room on the 5th floor, which had velux windows, so there was no view. The sloped roof is right next to the bed and is a hazard, and I whacked my head off it straight away. We asked for a move and got a room on the first floor overlooking the garden, which was much better. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the room is done out every day, and the towels are changed if you want this. Breakfast is average at best and mainly continental. The scrambled eggs were unappealing and looked runny. The staff in this hotel are not engaging and are surly and unfriendly, including the dining room staff. They don't wear name badges or uniform of any description, so it's not always clear who they are. They are all quite young and give off a student vibe. The bed is a large double but has 2 single duvets. There is one very flat pillow each and that's it. The hotel is about a 25-minute walk from the old town, although there is a metro station about 5/10 min walk away. Prague itself is stunning, and we will definitely return one day, but next time we would pay extra and stay nearer the old town. I genuinely don't think this hotel is 4 star, but it is a decent 3 star."

"When I read 'holiday girls' review I was really worried and almost phoned my travel agent up to see if I could change hotels!! I looked on booking.com and it had an 8.9 review, so I was relieved. The hotel is central for the tram, only a 10 min walk to IP Pavlova for the trams, no.22 particularly is a good one! 😆 Just turn left out of the hotel and keep going straight and you will come to the trams. Our room was large, the only downside was the shower had only 3 'jets' of water. The bed was hard, I love a hard bed! 😆 So I was happy!! The breakfast was good, lots of choice, I am a bit of an orange fan at the moment, and the orange pieces were delicious, so I got lots of vit. C!! We were unfortunate in that my hubby was hospitalised on our first day, the hotel let me keep the room for 2 nights, but then moved us to the Amigo next door which was smaller and darker, but a better shower!! (And got some reason twice the price, even though they are attached!) There is a safe and hairdryer in the room. In Alqush we were on the 3rd floor at the front, could not hear any traffic at all, it would be different in the summer if you have your window open! Also being at the front, the front door can slam, so it may be a little noisy for some. Lots of lovely restaurants nearby and a beautiful church. "
