"5 Stars - absolutely. This is a lovely small hotel in the perfect location in Vienna. Now the headline.
There is major construction across the street. A huge project that has been going on for years - and across several ownerships. When I first researched this hotel, I saw the construction site on Google Earth and so researched it. I discovered that the investor was fraudulent and had run out of money, shutting the project down. So I thought I was safe. But when we arrived as a family at the hotel, they were well into the demo of the old site - a different investor had stepped in and the prpject was under way again.
It’s inevitable that every hotel at some point in their existence will have to deal with construction - twhether it’s their own or whether they’re subjected to others. Unfortunately, it’s Das Tyrol’s turn, at least for the foreseeable future, which I would say is for another year to 18 months - until Spring-Summer of 2027. I’m sorry that I am the first to report this it seems on Trip Advisor - but isn't that the point of this site - to ADVISE potential guests of their stay?
According to the people I talked to at the hotel, demolition of the old property across the street is supposed to be completed by April 2026, but that doesn’t mean the noise will then cease. Construction is loud. Whether it be jackhammering (which we were subjected to) or the clanging of steel beams, construction equipment or trucking, it’s just loud. Period. Constuction on this site starts promptly at 7:00am and continues until 5:00pm weekdays.
Fortunately, the hotel is equipped with excellend soundproofing. In fact, as tested here with the construction, some of the best soundproofing I’ve ever experienced at a hotel. Not only to the outside, but also within rooms. We were in room 20, which was a “Studio” room with a balcony facing the main street the construction was on, and the soundproofed windows knocked the noise down to a dull roar. We could not have had a room closer to the work - so if you are considering this property in the near future, know that the hotel is split into two sections - in front and in back of the elevator. The rooms in front of the elevator - the “0-1-2” rooms (rooms 20,21, 22 on the second floor, 30,31 and 32 on the third floor and so on) are the rooms closest to the main street and the construction, and will be most subject to the noise., The “3-4-5” rooms on the other side of the elevator will be quieter. I think that the “5’ rooms are also Studio rooms, that are totally in the back of the hotel that would be the quietest.
But now, on to the more permanent stuff, and what most other guests have mentioned. This is truly a special property. The hotel is in perfect shape and so well taken care of. Bathrooms are well appointed, amazing shelf and hangar space in each room, quality linens and towels, excellent water pressure in all rooms with no hot water delay, I mean really, I cannot find anything to fault. And the location - for a tourist - could not be better - walking distance to the museum quarter and old town. Really quite perfect.
The hotel serves only breakfrast to order, but it is a hearty, varied menu that will satisfy most customers. There is aldo a bar which has a decent liquor selection. And perhaps best of all, the staff is super kind and accommodating.
One cannot blame the hotel for the constuction they are subjected to across the street. This place is one of the best boutique hotels I’ve stayed at and will absolutely return. Thank you Das Tyrol, and may the builders across the street finish quickly!"
