Britannia Aberdeen Hotel

"Stayed three nights on a coach trip to Balmoral. The hotel looks worse than it actually is. I am a relatively fussy eater but I found the food was hot and of decent quality. Value for the price. I did not enjoy the seating arrangements, more like boarding school! but this was probably due to the coach trip experience. Waiting staff were quick and overworked...and looked it! Carpets etc are generally tired and badly fitted. Beds were clean but both the bed and the pillows were extremely hard and I suffered with my back. The attitude of the reception staff woman left a lot to be desired. Our room looked onto a flat roof which was covered in debris, cans, old socks etc....nobody showed any interest when I mentioned this. The cost of the trip reflected the quality of the hotel but I have to say for a 3 star I have been in worse!"

"Honestly the worst hotel i’ve ever stayed at. We visited as part of a mystery tour with Loch Lomond Travel and if we hadn’t noticed the “cheap daily and evening rates sign” the only mystery would have been why they chose there. Location is pretty crummy, 28 minutes uber into city centre. Too expensive for us to do. We took a walk and there’s some overpriced corner shops, a McDonalds 10/15 minutes walk away, and a pub/ restaurant, pub, and restaurant that left a lot to be desired. Area was not welcoming for any solo travellers. One place had food trodden all over floor, every table including the bar sticky with things spilled. The other had a counter covered in kids toys/ mess no alcohol license, a paper menu with 5 drink choices on it and a menu with 50% of options removed, prices incorrect, and Christmas music playing etc etc. You get the idea of options surrounding here. Rooms are dirty, damaged and not serviced during your stay. Our window was partially broken, bed broken in two and mismatched so one half sat higher than the other, the wheel of one part had been left on table. Peep hole blocked with rubbish, food crunched into floor and unidentified marks all over everything. The doors were scraped, scratched ( probably a guest trying to escape) and corridors mirrored a hospital. Food was served in a school dinners style, metal trays with no heat lamps to keep it warm, and quality far from acceptable. No working fridge for wine, no facility to pay cash, and 80’s style entertainment. Everything was just so dated. Even the tv and wifi barely worked. Which would have been fine if a good location where"

"I recently stayed at the Britannia Hotel Aberdeen and had a genuinely disappointing experience, made worse by how the situation was handled afterward. During the night, there was significant disruption which made it extremely difficult to sleep. The noise levels were unacceptable, and while I understand that hotels cannot control every guest, I did not feel the situation was managed effectively at the time. The following morning, after a sleepless night, I raised the issue—something that was clearly frustrating given the lack of rest. However, instead of receiving understanding or a constructive response, I was later sent an email effectively dismissing my concerns. I was told that the hotel “did everything they could” and that there were “no security concerns,” which completely contradicts my experience as a paying guest. What was particularly disappointing was the tone of the response. Rather than acknowledging the impact the disruption had, it focused on defending the hotel and criticising my reaction. Being described in a negative way for raising a legitimate complaint felt unprofessional and unfair. Yes, I was refunded and offered a complimentary meal, but this does not make up for the overall experience or the way the situation was handled. A refund does not erase a poor night’s stay, and good customer service is about listening and responding respectfully—not simply compensating and dismissing. Overall, this was a frustrating experience from start to finish. I would not return, and I would advise others to consider carefully before booking."
