"It was our 2nd time staying here after staying here last July whilst my sister got married in Marmaris.
We loved it so much last year we booked again within 2 days of being back in the UK.
We’ve just returned from 10days here and this year felt a little different for us.
Pros: You can’t deny the absolutely beautify panoramic sea views.
The staff were there to greet us for our late evening arrival and very quick check in and helpful service.
The cleaners were brilliant and would say hello each day and the new addition of fresh omelettes in the morning was lovely too and the lady making these was always smiling and greeting us every morning.
Location and price for this hotel is also good value for money although price did go up from last year but to be expected with inflation.
Also the hotel is very clean including the restaurant, restaurant toilets and reception toilets too.
Cons: The major downfall this year was having to walk on the beach for 7:30am every morning just to get a sunbed (never had to do this last July) to sit and watch the beach staff member reserving at least 6-8beds per day at 6:30am.
Some of which people didn’t lay on until 2pm and it was the same people arriving late to the beach each day.
We think it was a case of them maybe tipping the waiters for special treatment but we’re not sure.
We also witnessed several couples and families from other hotels take up our sunbeds and buying drinks from shops or other bars to bring to the beach so not even contributing to our hotel bar profits and meaning hotel guests left with no beds.
Last year Okan on the beach would move these people on and rightfully reserve the beds for hotel guests firsthand.
This year it wasn’t the case and it was a free for all.
Trying to get a drink on the beach from the beach member of staff was also much harder than last year as he would dissapear frequently to help inside the restaurant who were under-staffed which meant he completely forgot our drinks one day after waiting for 30mins for them.
We don’t mind walking into the restaurant to get a drink to take onto the beach but as it was such good beach service last year we just expected the same this time around.
Also restaurant staff were friendly as always, special mention to Joseph, spike and the young lad with the buzz cut who were the hardest workers day in day out.
They seemed overworked made a comment about being short staffed which was evident in the longer wait on food and drinks than last year.
The restaurant area appeared more scruffy than last year with cigarette burns in the table runners and seat cushions looking abit worse for wear albeit very clean throughout as well maintained as we watched them clean several times throughout the day.
Only thing we thought was abit dangerous was the amount of water on the floor from the mist fans which were pools of water you couldn’t avoid a very slippy.
We are only young but there were much older people there some with sticks who may have slipped on this and had a nasty fall.
We also paid our bar tab every night in Lira so we could keep track of our money and when we asked to keep on our room at the end of the holiday we were told by the manager at reception we had to pay an outstanding bill of 1600tl first from almost a week prior.
We explained this couldn’t be right as we’d paid each day the end of every night but they didn’t budge and said we must pay in English.
We explained we would pay again but only had lira and we stupidly didn’t keep our receipt (apparently this also happened to a few others) but when looking we’d been charged for drinks we don’t even like so knew we hadn’t had them.
Some were taken off the bill, other drinks weren’t as we couldn’t prove either way.
After this we decided not to give the hotel anymore of our money as they wanted £40 English cash to keep the room on.
Instead we headed to our room and packed our things as quick as we could to check out even earlier at 11:00am even though our pick up was at 7:20pm
We asked about shower room facilities and was told you only have the outdoor one near the pool and no towel will be provided we just had to use our own beach towels which were obviously dirty from the beach that day.
We didn’t want to leave on a bad note as we absolutely loved this hotel last year as do our family who have stayed here several times before and are booked on in a few weeks too and I don’t want this review to defer from the fact it’s a great location, good value for money and OK breakfast but for us this year was just so different to last and it was evident the more money you spent in the hotel restaurant the more fuss was made of you by the staff which is not how it should be. Everyone should be treated fairly regardless of how much money you throw behind the bar.
Based on this, although we will definitely be returning to Marmaris again, we will be looking to stay elsewhere even if it does mean us having to sacrifice the beautiful sea view.
We suggest maybe giving guests a wristband or even a branded hotel towel to put on the beach beds so that the beach staff know who is/isn’t in the hotel.
For 2 days we had to just wonder round and walk for hours as we couldn’t get a bed in the beach or round the pool and this was at 9am
Please get back to how you was last year Maris Beach. We loved our stay so much we couldn’t wait to re-book
Standards definitely slipped for us this year and we also heard many others complaining about the sunbed situation on the beach.
Which would be so much of an issue if there was a larger pool area but people had nowhere else to go other than to sit on their balconies or in the bar and wait for beds to possibly come available late afternoon"
