Aegean calm, artfully reimagined

Set behind a kilometre of private cove where the water shifts from turquoise to sapphire before lunch, this is Aegean life pared back to its essentials – and all the more luxurious for it. Borrowing its calm from the ancient city of Priene and its confidence from millennia of Aegean history, the resort trades ornament for ease: olive trees over opulence, sea views over spectacle. And for those who want their own square of that calm, the Priene houses offer private pools and cabanas tucked into the greenery, split between an adults-only sanctuary and a family-friendly zone.

Days here have a rhythm rather than a schedule: a slow swim, a long lunch, a spa visit that turns into an afternoon. Every terrace, pathway, and pool feels considered rather than staged, an invitation to slow down rather than perform relaxation. Even the landscaping has scruples: some 5,000 trees were carefully lifted from the site before construction and replanted once the last stone was laid, so the grounds feel less newly built than quietly resumed. Somewhere between a gentle morning and a stretched-out afternoon, you might forget what day it is – which, here, counts as success.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

Hotel highlights

Claim a stretch of sand-and-pebble shoreline that runs for more than a kilometre, and the sea does the rest – sliding through shades of blue as if showing off for no one in particular. Beyond the water, pine-scented hills roll towards hidden bays and archaeological treasures that would make any history buff weak at the knees: the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, the ruined grandeur of Miletus, the hilltop hush of Priene.

Didim's own coastline adds Blue Flag beaches, the sheltered cove at Monastery Bay and a longstanding reputation among the Aegean's yachting crowd. Within the resort, tree-lined paths offer serenity and discovery in equal measure – what will you find in these gardens that tumble towards the shore?

Consider this fair warning: Akra Didim does not do modest portions of flavour. The open buffet at Arasta plays it straight with fresh, sustainable Aegean produce. The run of à la carte spots, then, lets you pick your mood – Ocakbasi for authentic Turkish, Incir for something more international in a family-friendly setting, or Salkim if it’s a grown-up vibe you’re after.

A patisserie waits for the sweet-toothed, Baska Ol catches the coffee crowd, and come evening, the 251 Soul/Jazz Bar and the adults-only Beach Bar keep the conversation – and the cocktails – flowing well past midnight. The only real difficulty is choosing where to begin.

For your very important little ones, Akra Didim delivers a supercharged programme of kid-friendly fun. And at the centre of it all: The Art & Culture Village. This turns traditional kids’ club activities on their head, with workshops in painting, woodwork, dance, and ceramics. Pack the kids off to get their hands dirty while you hit the adults-only beach, or sign up for a family session and spend a couple of hours making art – and memories.

Then there’s the usual daily offering of activities for youngsters, plus a dedicated programme for teens, and a couple of water slides for the splash-happy. Even the tiniest of tots are well taken care of – you can arrange to have your villa stocked with a baby bed, stroller, baby bath, bottle warmer, high chair, and more.

For those who like their relaxation with a pulse, the Akra Rackets Club is the reason to pack the trainers: courts for tennis, padel, and pickleball – floodlit for evenings, with private and group coaching from resident pros for anyone wanting to sharpen a serve rather than simply keep score.Add HIIT classes, sea gymnastics (yes, really), beach volleyball, and cycling, and the daylight hours look after themselves.

As dusk falls, live entertainment and themed evenings take over, and history is never far away – the ancient sites scattered across the region reward the curious. Whether your ideal day involves a paddle, a plunge, or a pilgrimage to Priene, there's always another reason to look up from the sunbed.

There are no bad places to start at Sarnic Spa & Wellness, but if you’ll indulge us, we’d steer you towards the Watsu pool first – a floating, water-borne take on shiatsu that might leave you slightly baffled when it works its relaxation magic.

From there, the sauna, steam room, salt room and ice room do their work in sequence, while a traditional hammam adds a proper dose of local ritual and the Kneipp walking pools do something unreasonably effective for tired legs. Longevity-focused treatments and personalised programmes round things out, yoga and Pilates keep the mornings zen, and for the truly committed, a digital detox zone – no phones, no wifi, no television – offers the rarest luxury of all: genuine, guilt-free absence. Doing nothing has never felt quite so accomplished.

What’s better than staying in a luxe villa with its own private pool on a private patch of Aegean shoreline? Staying in one that comes with a list of exclusive benefits, and an all-access pass to the whole Akra Didim Resort.

This is a place that blurs the line between ordinary and extraordinary. Stay for a week and you might come to expect the finer things in life. Priority buggy service to get you from bed to beach with bags, buckets, and babies in tow, priority reservations in the restaurants and the spa, exclusive à la carte breakfasts… We could go on. But this is just the beginning. The rest? You’ll have to find out for yourself.

The 5,000 trees that were temporarily relocated during construction. Because this is their land – the rest of us are merely visitors.

The peace and quiet of the Priene houses. Expect private pools, proper privacy, and a real escape – whatever that means to you.

The pool scene. Dare to drag yourself away from your private swim spot and you’ll find a handful of pools sunk into the leafy terrace. Tailor-made for lazy days.
