"We are currently staying at the Massimo Hotel in the Grand Suite and, overall, we’re enjoying our stay so far. The hotel is in an excellent location, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and supermarkets, making it a great base for exploring the area.
We chose the Grand Suite because it has a kitchenette, as we planned to cook some of our evening meals. It also has a good-sized fridge, which is useful. One addition that would make the kitchenette even more practical would be a small freezer compartment, particularly for guests staying for longer periods. We also felt the kitchen could be better equipped with a few more cooking utensils and basic essentials such as washing-up liquid, a dishcloth and a tea towel. These are small additions that would make self-catering much easier and enhance the overall guest experience.
The air conditioning is excellent and has been a real bonus in the summer heat. The bed is very firm, which wasn’t particularly comfortable for us, although we appreciate that’s a matter of personal preference. A simple improvement would be to offer mattress toppers on request. A good night’s sleep is one of the most important parts of any hotel stay, and having this option would cater for guests who prefer a softer mattress.
The staff have all been friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay and are a real credit to the hotel. One suggestion would be to provide guests with a welcome booklet or information pack in the room explaining how to find the different facilities, opening times, local information and other useful details. We felt this would have made settling in much easier.
The beach club is in a beautiful setting and has a great atmosphere. However, we found the drinks to be quite expensive at around £7 for a bottle of Corona. If the drinks had been more reasonably priced, we would have happily spent much more time there and undoubtedly spent more money at the beach club. Instead, we bought drinks from the nearby supermarket for around £2 a bottle and spent our days relaxing by the hotel pool.
The pool area has beautiful views and is a lovely place to relax. Although the pool itself is quite small, it is ideal for cooling off. One improvement that would make a big difference would be the addition of more parasols or shaded areas. During our stay there has only been one parasol available, meaning many guests arrive at the pool but don’t stay long because there is very little protection from the sun. Providing more shade would make the pool area much more comfortable and encourage guests to spend longer there.
One area where we feel there is room for improvement is the housekeeping. Since arriving, our towels have not been changed and, for a hotel advertised as four-star, we would have expected this as a minimum standard. There are also no “Please Clean My Room” or “Do Not Disturb” door signs, making it difficult to know when your room will be serviced. Housekeeping has seemed a little inconsistent during our stay. For example, yesterday our room was visited and only the floors were swept, with no fresh towels, replacement toilet roll or other servicing carried out. A clearer housekeeping system and more consistent servicing would make a significant difference to the guest experience.
Breakfast is enjoyable, although we feel a little more variety would appeal to a wider range of guests. There is a selection of cheeses, cold meats, jams, cereal, fruit and various salads and dips. However, we would have loved to see a few more hot breakfast options, such as pancakes, baked beans, mushrooms, bacon and sausages, to complement the existing selection.
A few maintenance updates would also further enhance what is already a lovely hotel. Small improvements such as repairing and repainting the decking, refreshing some of the tile finishes, replacing worn areas and giving the windows a thorough clean would make a noticeable difference to the overall appearance and help the hotel better reflect its four-star rating.
Overall, we’re enjoying our stay and appreciate the excellent location, the beautiful pool views, the effective air conditioning and, above all, the friendliness of the staff. However, based on our experience so far, we feel there are several areas where the hotel falls short of what we would expect from a four-star property. We’ve stayed in some two-star hotels that have offered more consistent housekeeping and better attention to detail. We hope our feedback is received in the constructive spirit in which it is is intended, as we believe that with improvements to housekeeping, maintenance, the self-catering facilities, guest information, shaded areas around the pool and the pricing at the beach club, this hotel has the potential to offer an even better experience."
