"We stayed at Villa Tagoro in Tenerife and, unfortunately, this has been one of the most disappointing holiday experiences we have had.
One of the first issues we encountered was being told by reception that the hotel had run out of bottled water and charge €2.50. For an all-inclusive resort, we found it unacceptable that guests were advised to purchase small bottles from a vending machine or get told to go to the shop.
The most concerning issue, however, was the presence of cockroaches. We visit Tenerife every year and have never experienced anything like this before. In fact, we stayed only ten minutes away last year and had no such problems. To be honest, we have never encountered cockroaches in any accommodation we have stayed in on the island, making this particularly disappointing.
Cleanliness throughout our stay has also been a major concern. We found the apartment to be dirty, and the bedding did not appear to be properly cleaned. This is simply not what we expect from a hotel advertised as a four-star property.
As someone with dietary requirements, I was shocked to be advised on arrival to find somewhere else to eat on fish night. The allergen-free meal I ordered never arrived, and there was very limited allergen information displayed alongside the food. The buffet labels identified dishes but provided no allergen details. I was also concerned to see children placing their hands into multiple food trays, creating a clear risk of cross-contamination for guests with allergies or dietary restrictions.
The food and drink facilities were also consistently lacking. The post-mix soft drink machines were frequently empty, and on several mornings the juice machines were not working properly. The coffee machines often dispensed very small amounts, requiring multiple attempts just to get a normal-sized drink. Even basic items such as ketchup were regularly empty and not replenished promptly. While these may seem like minor issues individually, when they happen repeatedly throughout a holiday, they become frustrating and reflect poor management and attention to detail
We also paid extra to upgrade our room to include a hot tub, which unfortunately turned out to be a complete waste of money. The water was green, clearly not being maintained to an acceptable standard, and there was no way we felt comfortable using it. Although we reported the issue and were assured that the hot tubs were maintained regularly, we did not see anyone inspect, clean, or maintain ours during the entire 10 days of our stay. Considering we specifically paid extra for this facility, it was extremely disappointing and left us feeling that we had wasted money on an upgrade we could not use.
Despite raising our concerns, we felt they were not addressed satisfactorily. As a result, we spent much of our holiday away from the hotel, incurring significant additional costs on meals and excursions simply because we did not feel comfortable remaining there. Combined with the disruption and lack of sleep caused by these issues, it has had a substantial impact on our holiday.
Given the price paid for this holiday, the overall experience has fallen far below our expectations. Cockroaches, poor cleanliness standards, inadequate allergy management, poorly maintained facilities, shortages of bottled water, and repeated issues with food and drink service are not what we expect from a four-star all-inclusive resort.
Sadly, this holiday has been so disappointing that we are genuinely relieved to be back home. Based on our experience, I would not return to Villa Tagoro and would strongly encourage prospective guests to read recent reviews carefully before booking."
