"We had a lovely holiday overall, and the hotel itself is a nice property with friendly staff and good entertainment. However, there were a number of things that could be improved, particularly if you are travelling with young children.
The food was probably our biggest disappointment. The gluten-free options were very limited, repetitive and not particularly well labelled. Folk using the GF toaster despite it being well labelled. Same bakery items daily. Most staff seemed unsure when we asked about gluten-free choices, which made meals more difficult than they needed to be. There was also a lot of dessert choice, but unfortunately most of it was cream based and became quite repetitive. We also found the food in general very salty.
The pool area was frustrating with children. There were no floats or balls allowed, this seemed to depend on which lifeguard was on duty, so the rules felt inconsistent. Noodles and water pistols were allowed but become boring after so long. Our children loved the pool, but at times it felt as though they weren't really allowed to be children and have fun. The tiles surrounding the pool were also extremely slippery, particularly for children who naturally run around. I would strongly recommend bringing swim shoes.
The entertainment itself was good, and the entertainers were lovely, friendly and very engaging. However, the activities and games became quite repetitive after a while and could have been spread throughout the day a little more to entertain the young ones. When there was games in the pool, adults were allowed to join in and it became very competitive as I watched children be dunked to get the ball off them.
Another issue in the evenings was getting a seat for the entertainment. Unless you saved a seat or went for dinner early, it was very difficult to find somewhere to sit afterwards. We were also disappointed by people vaping on the non-smoking side, which was particularly unpleasant when sitting with children as well as the foul language.
Cleanliness could also be improved. The floors didn't appear to be routinely cleaned, and on one occasion I lifted the chairs and sofa bed off the floor so that the area underneath could be cleaned, which made us wonder how often this was normally done. We also noticed some of the tiled flooring around the room was lifting, and there were areas where taped tiles were still lifting when walked on.
Overall, the hotel is lovely and we did enjoy our holiday, but compared with other hotels we have stayed in, there is definitely room for improvement. For families with young children, I wouldn't say this would be our first choice. The pool is great and our children absolutely loved it, but the restrictions around pool toys and the slippery surrounding tiles made it harder for them to simply enjoy themselves.
Location was good, plenty of public transport available and walking distance to the beach. Local shops nearby for snacks etc.
The staff (bar one receptionist on the last day who had an attitude problem) and entertainment team deserve a special mention as they were friendly and welcoming throughout. With some improvements to the food, cleanliness, pool policies, flooring and family facilities, this could be a really good family hotel."
