Xaloc Playa

"A first visit to the Xaloc playa hotel and it will not be the last. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised on how good this hotel is. Spotlessly clean rooms which the maids cleaned every day. A large swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers next to a snack bar with reasonable prices. The meals in the restaurant were excellent, always hot and plenty of choice. A hotel is only as good as its staff and the staff at the Xaloc are hard working, very pleasant and very friendly. Looking forward to our next visit."

"I don't know how this hotel has such good reviews. We booked for the location right on the beach and we were expecting basic but for me the basics weren't up to standard. The pool area isn't hosed down each day, only briefly swept, meaning there is a lot of pigeon poo around the pool, the sunbeds are dirty, the pool pumps mustn't be working as there is a thick green line round the edge and there are dead moths floating all over the place in the morning. They had some newer looking blue sunbeds (still dirty) and some very old and stained beige sunbeds, way more than needed so I don't understand why they would keep such grim looking beds by the pool when not even 25% of the sunbeds were occupied. The rooms are small with very little storage, but the aircon and shower pressure are very good. Our room was clean but the fridge we paid extra for was dirty. The food was very limited choice and dining room a bit drab, we only ate one meal there. Some other guests didn't have great manners and thought the pool area was a good place to change into swimwear after they'd been out for the day, and lets just say I saw more than I'd hoped for on a couple of occasions! The person I was with slipped in reception at the start of our week, and although the man on reception was very helpful there was no follow up to check if they were ok. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful but we had very little interaction with them. Unfortunately other hotels in the area were fully booked so we couldn't leave. The plastic cup pictured by the pool stayed there for the week we were there.....they must have swept around it!"
