Historic hotel overlooking Mahón’s natural harbour
You’ll find the Hotel Del Almirante in a picturesque position on a hill above a rocky natural harbour. The property dates back to the 18th Century and was once a Colonial family mansion. Nowadays, it’s an elegant hotel filled with unique antiques, paintings and maps that nod towards the seafaring aristocrat that once lived there – Admiral Lord Collingwood. It’s well located, within a 15-minute walk of both Mahon – the island’s capital – and pretty Es Castell.
The pool area is tucked into the courtyard behind the mansion. It’s surrounded by a spacious sun terrace lined with sun beds, which makes the perfect spot for relaxing with a book borrowed from the hotel’s library. There's a well-stocked bar for drinks, too.
Not one for just relaxing by the pool? Grab an opponent for a game of tennis on the clay court, take a tour of the hotel to learn about its history, or borrow hiking poles and take a walk along the ancient coastal path. Alternatively, you can wander into Mahon and hop between the waterfront tapas bars and seafood restaurants, or sample the local wine and cheese.
