Rustic romance meets sea-view serenity

Sitting pretty on a Menorcan hillside, Torralbenc is where farmstead charm collides with understated indulgence. Once a cluster of 19th-century whitewashed barns, it has been reborn – it’s a retreat where the air smells of rosemary, the horizon stretches to the Mediterranean, and every detail has been considered. Days are deliciously slow here: breakfast beneath a cane pergola, languid afternoons by the saltwater pool, a candlelit dinner in a cave, and perhaps a twilight massage with lavender oil pressed from the estate itself.

Hotel highlights

Between Mahón and Ciutadella, Torralbenc sits quietly above the town of Alaior, its vantage point commanding views of both vineyards and the glittering southern coast. The location is almost a paradox: blissfully secluded, yet just fifteen minutes from the airport. You’ll find yourself close to Menorca’s most postcard-worthy beaches – Cala Macarella with its turquoise waters or the wild, rust-red sands of Cala Pregonda – but equally tempted never to leave the property.
The restaurant, guided by Michelin-starred Gorka Txapartegi, is Menorca on a plate: honest, seasonal, and kissed by charcoal. Expect dishes like shrimp essence with seaweed crisps, monkfish with citrus butter, or lobster rice worth the supplement. Don’t miss dessert, the baked Mahón cheesecake is a local love letter in edible form. The estate’s own wines – a crisp Chardonnay, a rare sparkling Pinot Noir rosé – are poured with pride. For romance dialled up to eleven, book dinner in the natural cave, where flickering candles set the scene for six courses of sea-meets-land magic.
The spa here isn’t vast, but it doesn’t need to be. Treatments use Natura Bissé products alongside oils distilled from Torralbenc’s own lavender and rosemary. The Torralbenc Massage is a fusion of shiatsu and Swedish techniques with homegrown botanicals, and it feels like being recalibrated from the inside out. For something more elemental, the Hot Stone Massage uses smooth Menorcan coast stones to melt away fatigue. Daily al-fresco yoga classes, held under morning skies, are a complimentary indulgence worth waking up for.
Torralbenc’s 25-metre saltwater infinity pool is where afternoons happily dissolve into evenings. Order a pomada –  the island’s gin-lemonade cooler –  with a lazy tap of the service button by your lounger, and watch the horizon blur into indigo. The scene is calm, grown-up, and wholly unhurried, though in summer you may see the occasional splash from little ones. When the call of the sea wins, hop on a bike or take a short drive to Cala’n Porter, the nearest cove, or boat out from Cala Galdana to explore Menorca’s necklace of turquoise inlets.
