"Just recently got back from a weeks stay at the Reverence Life hotel in Santa Ponsa from 30/3 to 6/4. We stayed in a comfort room with pool view , specifically room 1502 a top floor room in the main life building. I had asked for a top floor room prior to arrival to nice to see they took account of that and the room was really nice actually , bonus was it was at the end of the building so no room next to it on one side and we never heard a peep out of the one adjacent room or any other room for that matter , it was really quiet. I would just like to apologise right now if you were in the room next to us and my wife’s coughing disturbed you , she wasn’t well for the whole holiday really and we did have to pay a visit to the local ‘hospital’ which I must say was brilliant , we were in and out in less than 30 mins, anyway I digress…
The weather was absolutely amazing for the time of year , there was only one day we couldn’t sunbathe around the pool and towards the end of the week it was really very warm indeed , couldn’t fault the weather at all and way exceeded my expectations so we were very lucky in that respect.
As I’ve said the room was really nice, large balcony that got sun pretty much all day really, nice to sit out there in the late afternoon as the sun went down.
No rush for sunbeds at all, could literally go down at 11am and there were plenty to choose from but that might be different in high season obviously.
Location was great , yes there’s a steep hill back to the hotel from the beach but it’s not very long and didn’t bother us at all really. Beach a couple of mins away as was a supermarket and pharmacy and plenty of places to eat should you feel inclined to eat out. And that brings me on to the food…
Breakfast was fine , really nice actually , fresh salad stuff and cereals and pretty decent fruit juices , not freshly squeezed orange but I’ve had a lot worse. Plenty of cooked options and you could have fried eggs or an omelette made fresh. No complaints really about breakfast. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the evening meal , now this was a cheap week away for us and a slightly lower standard of hotel than we’d usually stay in so I have to lower my expectations a bit, the evening meal was ok , it wasn’t awful and it wasn’t amazing. There was fresh salad like at breakfast , there was soup and there were various other things that varied day to day so things like paella and lasagne and squid rings etc but that was all pretty average , I mean don’t get me wrong there was nothing wrong with it per se but it certainly wasn’t anything special and the desserts were pretty disappointing as well , there was fruit (melon) and ice cream and then some run of the mill mass produced cakes which were ok but didn’t make me want to go back for more really.
My biggest issue really was the board basis (and I accept it’s a HB hotel so I aren’t going to mark it down for this). This was the first time we’ve been HB for over 20 years probably , always been AI before and it certainly brought it home to me just what a good deal AI can be and how quickly things can add up on HB. A cocktail and lemonade around the pool , about €14. Coffee and soft drink nearly €10. We did notice people were bringing their own drinks in from the supermarket , on the day before we left a group arrived who were doing that quite blatantly even having the bottles on the poolside and they clearly had drinks in their room as well. If the hotel are fine with that then all well and good and it would certainly make for a more affordable holiday overall. Dunno, for us we like the flexibility of AI and knowing you can just get a drink at anytime and there’s nothing extra to pay. Obviously you do pay for it upfront I’m aware of that but for us we just prefer it really.
Overall to sum up if you don’t mind being B&B or HB and don’t have too high expectations of the food in the evening you can’t go far wrong here really. It’s a great location with lots of amenities nearby and a fantastic beach and the hotel is clean and the rooms are nice (well can’t speak for the premium rooms but we didn’t feel we lost out sticking with a comfort room with pool view). I don’t think we’ll go back but I can see why people do , it’s a nice hotel."
