"We've just returned from a 7 night all inclusive stay at this hotel and this is our honest review.
We arrived at the hotel and were greeted at reception by the lovely reception staff. They checked us in quickly, gave us our all inclusive wrist bands, helped with wifi, gave us two tokens for the drinks (I'll get to that later) - no problems.
No complaints about the lobby. Lovely and clean with plenty of seating.
Then we got into the lift up to our room. Quite small and there's only two of them which was alright at this time of year as the hotel wasn't that busy but in the peak season I can see this being a problem for guests having to wait a while to get from floor to floor.
The room: On first impressions it looked good! Plenty of room, sofa and coffee table, kettle, cups, tea coffee sugar etc, good sized balcony with table and chairs - great! until you start looking around and see the previous guests hairs on the floor, dirt under the table, dust on the plinths that I could literally write my name in - not great!
I understand that the cleaners only get a certain amount of time to clean each room, but the room needed at least a good couple of hours of deep cleaning.
Oh, and there was also a fridge but it was as useful as a chocolate fireguard. It never got cold.
The beds and pillows were quite firm. Some people found them comfortable, but I woke up most mornings with aching joints as there was no give in the mattress.
The walls and floors are paper thin. Even when the guests next door were having a normal conversation, we could hear them quite clearly. And when they were at it (if you know what I mean) well, we heard a hell of a lot more than we would have cared for!!
If the guests upstairs were wearing shoes, it sounded like a herd of elephants charging around. You could hear every step, very loudly. Now imagine this in the early hours of the morning when they've come back from a night out and they're waking you up most nights.
There is a safe in the room but we didn't bother with it as we heard from other guests that it was expensive to hire!
The bathroom: Small, but practical. The shower had two shower heads. One adjustable height and one overhead. Plenty of hot water and no trouble with pressure. The cubicle is a little tight and the cover that goes over the plug hole is loose so if you're not careful, you could quite easily stand on it and fall. That's probably why they put a grab rail in there.
To soap yourself down or wash your hair, you have to step up onto the little ledge where you get in. That can get quite slippery so you need to watch your step.
The tokens for the drinks: We were told that when we went to the bar, we needed to hand over the tokens to get our drinks. One token per person, two drinks per token.
My husband ordered our first two drinks and they took both tokens from him, not one as we were told he'd need for two drinks. The second time he went to the bar, they asked for the second token and when my husband said that they already had them both, they huffed at him and gave him a token back. It was all really confusing.
Now bare in mind we were wearing our all inclusive wristbands so this token malarky was a complete waste of everyone's time. By the end of the week, they obviously got to know who we were and they didn't care about the tokens at all as long as we took our glasses back to the bar.
The all inclusive drinks were terrible. The beer was awful and the spirits were so weak that even when they filled your glass half way with them, you couldn't taste them when they'd put in your mixer.
The coffee from the machines was good though.
The food: Oh my god, it was horrendous. Yes there was a variety, albiet quite poor, but everything was clock cold. ALL THE TIME!
The dining room opened for the evening meal at 7pm. We went down one night at around 10 minutes past and yes, the supposedly freshly prepared food was cold. 10 minutes after opening!! There are microwaves for you to use, but you should have to heat up your food before you eat it! The complaints we heard from other guests said exactly the same thing, day after day.
The best thing about the food in the dining room was the salad as it was supposed to be cold.
One night they had beef stew on. I tried a bit and I spat it out straight away. It was all gristle. I tried another piece, as did my husband, and it was exactly the same. It was like chewing a rubber ball.
We paid for all inclusive but we ate out. Now this was affordable for us to do, but for those who are on a budget will be stuck having to eat in the hotel. Not good.
Entertainment: The entertainment woman was lovely. The entertainment offered wasn't good though. Now I'm guessing that she was told what to offer and that she had no choice? Stretching and yoga was offered every morning and I didn't see anyone take her up on it.
The pool: The pool area was lovely. The pool was freezing though! I imagine that when the weather gets warmer, so will the pool.
The toilets around the pool were closed for the whole week we were there so if you needed a pee, you had to get dressed, go through the entertainment area, past the bar, down a corridor past the dining room and go to where the lifts are. Just to have a pee!
And there was no music or anything like that around the pool. No atmosphere whatsoever,
A couple had taken their own speaker down to the pool and put a bit of music on. It wasn't really loud and a lot of us guests were quite enjoying listening to it but the lifeguard went over and told them to turn it off! The atmosphere slumped back down and some people left and went back to their rooms.
I know that they'll probably reply to my review with the generic "our cleaning is done to this standard and our food is cooked to that standard" and all the rest of the blah blah blah they've replied to others who've given a poor review, but they really should be taking this seriously. Someone could get really ill!
There's no way this hotel should have 4 stars. 2 star plus at most in my opinion.
It's a shame as it has the potential to be fantastic!"
