GPRO Valparaiso Palace and Spa

"This hotel is set in beautiful grounds and the breakfast and pool area were outstanding, the sun beds were plentiful and super comfortable. Many of the staff were also very pleasant. Why 2 stars? Well, one of the downsides was the location - there was very little to do nearby and the walk to Palma centre took over an hour. Another downside was the chat bot - before we travelled we submitted requests via the hotel website but these weren’t passed on and we received a low floor and two single beds (pushed together) rather than the higher floor and shared bed we had requested, so my advice is not to make any requests via the chatbot on the website, email the hotel directly. However, the main reason for my two star rating is the spa and the lack of comprehensive response from the hotel following a bad burn I suffered to my leg from a steam outlet in the salt spa. We were told we had a spa session included in our stay so visited on the Thursday (we stayed Sunday-Sunday). Unfortunately I sustained a painful burn to my lower leg from steam that shot from an outlet as I was leaving the spa. I reported it to the hotel shortly afterwards (on the Friday after it had blistered, burst and caused me a bad nights sleep). They were apologetic, I was told it would be escalated to the appropriate department for review and action. Two weeks (and many dressings later) it is still painful and weeping, needing to be dressed. The hotel did give us a complimentary late check out but this was so I could wash and dress it before we left at 6.30 p.m on the Sunday. Miguel saw the burn during our stay and I sent photos since returning home. On 13 Oct I was told the Manager was unavailable but would be in touch to address my case within the next two days. However, I only heard back from Miguel, the Head of reception, and whilst I received more renewed apologies and wishes for a full recovery, it was kindly recommended to me that I pursue the matter through my travel agency, ‘as this will allow all the information and communication regarding your complaint to be centralised and managed more efficiently.’ I’ve contacted Jet2 and am awaiting their response but am disappointed that such a hotel of this high standard has dealt so poorly with an injury they fully accept happened in their premises. I had to pay for the dinner we had in the hotel the night of the injury, when it was too painful to walk anywhere else. The night before we came home my partner brought back a take away as my leg was too sore. They had no first aid and offered no medical help at all despite knowing I was suffering. On this basis I can’t recommend the hotel on tripadvisor. If you do go, please be careful in the spa, or better still just avoid it because after our visit I could do very little."

"After the room facing the harbor was too loud for us. Large ships keep their engines running 24h. They offered us another quiet room without any problems. Top! The breakfast buffet is excellent and the people are attentive and friendly."

"Fantastic hotel which is really well run by staff who are so friendly and can't do enough to make your stay memorable. The hotel is spotless, with beautiful pool areas and spa, surrounded by well maintained gardens. Breakfast is one of the best we've seen, with something for every taste, freshly prepared. Brilliant hotel to stay in if you are visiting Palma. We have stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions and our most recent stay was, quite simply out of this world. Management knew that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and upgraded us to a suite, which was straight from a movie set. We'll never be able to thank them enough for their kindness. Can't wait to return and thanks again."
