"What a location! The space! The luxury! Great hotel. The room was more like an appartment (side sea view/pool view), clean, fabulous aircon and useful fridge and kettle space.
Standout positives:
The lux feel to the hotel. The attention to detail. The location - dramatic views, sunset and close to a snorkelling cove and path to Cala Agulla or over the hill to Cala Gat. Loads of bars and cafes a walk away and town not too far, but far enough for a super peaceful holiday.
Pilates offered by the hotel was amazing - local high quality teacher who actually taught in English even though the rest of the class were German.
The pools are amazing and we could usually find a lounger somewhere inspite of the traditional and expected sunlounger hogging at 7am.
Negatives:
Shower over a bath, be aware. Great, if erratic temp-wise, shower but nonetheless.
Food wasn’t great. The precooked big dish numbers were really poor. The live cooked chicken, meat and fish were good as was the salad bar which is what I ate all week so no drama.
Overwhelming German. I’m half German but nonetheless felt outnumbered and looked over.
Reception: We were practically ignored on arrival and treated rudely. Which we haven’t ever come across on arrival at a new hotel. The staff must have been spoken to as they did make an effort (quite obviously so!!) later on after we mentioned it. We were always spoken to in German first by all staff and I think there was only one other English couple there (who were wonderful, and a welcome sight!). Also there is often only one receptionist on, and a big queue so patience is required!
The gym needs maintenance and was very small, so quickly felt full once two or three others joined to use so I only used it once.
Some of the bar staff were arrogant and were offhand and cliquey. They are all male and there is a definite feeling that they own the place. Shame as one or two were nice and quick to switch to English or Spanish, and helpful.
On the Sunday the Sunset Bar closed at 9 - we were given a table to sit at (‘you can sit werever you like’ *shrug), and then no one served or spoke to us though there were probably six staff all right near to us. Turns out they were closing up and didn’t mention it. No other bar open at the hotel so be aware. The Sky Bar was not actually operating at all though featured in the TUI brochure/facilities on offer.
On balance we might go back. I think the manager is exceptional and is chasing excellence - it has that feeling. Enjoy ☺️"
