Retreat to the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains
A hillside cloaked in greenery, a pristine whitewashed finca rising staunchly from the scrub, and 810 glorious acres of home-away-from-home. This is Majorca at its wildest – yet the offering at Son Bunyola is as refined as the landscape is rugged.
Every aspect of this thoughtful renovation has been pored over, carefully curated to maintain the charm of the original 16th century finca. And the history is clear to see all around, from the original olive oil press that’s been sympathetically transformed into a venue for tasting sessions, to the characterful stone walls that envelope the main house and keep the whole world out.
But rest assured, behind those walls sits a hotel that’s bang up to date in every way that matters. Think a dreamy pool scene, a moreish massage menu, a showstopping dining scene, all the modern comforts you could ask for, and service truly fitting of five stars. This is an escape like no other – one that gets right under Majorca’s skin.

Hotel highlights
The foodie scene at Son Bunyola is something of a love letter to authentic Majorcan cuisine. Savour long, leisurely feasts of produce plucked from the estate’s gardens and orchards – this is farm-to-fork taken to new heights.
Sa Terrassa – as you’d expect – spills out onto the finca’s pretty-as-a-picture terrace, for al fresco lunches eyeing the sea and dinners under the stars. The adjoining bar does a mean line in expertly-mixed cocktails, sommelier-chosen wines, and intimate atmospheres. At Sa Tafona, the local produce really comes to life – expect tasting sessions of local olive oil, wine, and honey fresh from the estate's hives, in the characterful surrounds of the former olive oil mill.
Self-care is serious business, and the spa at Son Bunyola knows that well. From yoga classes on the terrace to restorative treatments in the wellness suite, the offering is as thoughtful as everything else about this place.
The menu makes for impressive – and oh-so-tempting – reading. Oh My Legs is the perfect antidote to muscles that have put in a shift peddling around the estate. Starting with a tangerine-scented salt exfoliation followed by a pressure-point massage, you’ll spring off the table ready to hit the trails once more. And if you can’t find quite what you’re looking for? Chat to the team about a bespoke treatment, tailored totally to you.
While you’re totally within your rights to spend your entire trip camped out poolside soaking up the sun, it’d be a shame to miss out on everything this estate has to offer. From donning a beekeeper’s suit and learning about the hotel’s hives to guided walks through the landscape with a local historian and private hiking tours, our favourite activities here are the ones that make the most of this stellar setting. Set a course for the shoreline – about 30 minutes' stroll at an I've-got-nowhere-to-be pace – and where the estate meets the sea you'll find a secluded pebble beach. Anyone for a dip?
You can delve deeper into the Majorcan culture, too, with local artisanal workshops that tick off weaving, perfume making, painting, and glassblowing. Active types can hit the tennis and pickleball courts, or grab bikes from reception and pedal their way through the landscape, while the foodies can feast on paella at a cooking class.
The setting. And how could we not? Pulled right off a postcard – and tailor-made for your Instagram grid – we expect you’ll be dreaming of these rolling hills of olive groves long after your return flight has touched down.
The idyllic pool scene. Sunk into the pristine terrace, with a smattering of mint-hued loungers just asking to be angled towards the sea, it’s the perfect location to lose an afternoon in a good book. And you needn’t worry about fighting for a spot, either, as there are just 27 rooms vying for a position on the terrace.
That despite its exclusive air, this place still manages to be down-to-earth in all the right places. The service is warm and friendly, the staff are personable, and the surroundings are a little bit wild and woolly.
