"[Apologies for the long review, but I think it is important to be honest as this hotel is not cheap and we don't believe it really delivers what it purports to]
My partner & 1 haven’t been to Majorca in 20+ years, so we picked this purported 4* hotel on a B&B basis. It is very expensive to eat out in Alcudia as the Euro rate is rubbish.... now I know why we've avoided European holidays for so long 🙂 I did use my British credit card wherever I could (the area is not very cash-friendly) for buses, meals and drinks, beds on the beach to get a much better exchange rate than the Euro notes we had brought.... I ended up getting Euros 1.16 to my £1 🙂
The standard side sea rooms are very dated and quite small.. Mr Manager, if there’s only 2 of us, we don’t need the old-fashioned big sofa bed chair taking up valuable space - it should maybe be replaced with some drawers/smaller chair?
There are no drawers at all for storage, only very small shelves throughout our room and bathroom so all your stuff is crammed in /sticking out/ no privacy/ making the place look scruffy.
The rooms do have an amazing view of the sea and area though I have to say.
The hotel room walls are paper-thin… we could hear the woman next door moaning and groaning in ectasy (!) and the man snoring his head off all night every night.
Ours (360) was right opposite the stage and plaza so it gets extremely noisy all day and evening until about 11pm… the adult evening entertainment is okay, nothing exciting.
The staff also start their cleaning, moving furniture etc in the Plaza really early each morning around 7am with no regard for people trying to sleep; the sounds seem to get amplified throughout across all the balconies so if you’re a light sleeper, you may need ear plugs!
There’s no actual fixed closeable bathroom door, just a perspex door, so no real privacy from your partner and you can hear all and any noises! (Not very 4*).
The flush power of the toilet and the water flow of the shower are excellent.
There were nice bottles of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in the shower cubicle.
Our room was cleaned daily and we were provided with new towels and bath mat daily.
The safe in the room is about £22 for 7 days, but ours wasn’t working so something else to report to reception on arrival.
Aircon - check your aircon is actually switched on at the fuse box !?!… we had to complain that our aircon wasn’t working only to find out by the techno man that that was the reason why.
TV - this is not a smart TV; throughout our whole holiday, the TV was crap…. Half the time the signal/ satellite/ digital TV didn’t work and we never got any British TV the whole time, so my partner never got to watch any World Cup matches he wanted in the comfort and coolness of our room, esp the very late matches. They show it downstairs, but it would have been nice to have the option to watch matches in our room for our comfort and/or without the loud opinionated “armchair football pundits” and kids/youngsters constantly walking across in front of the large screen😁
There is a water machine outside the lifts on all floors, but it was not always cold water and we were in the middle of a heatwave 🙁.
When hiring the kettle for Euros 10, make sure you pick up the cups from the bar as they’re not in the room (and hide them as the maid will take them away and not replace them). You’ll need to bring your own supplies of tea and coffee and buy some milk (from Eroski supermarket near the hotel, fab shop and drinks a lot cheaper there than at the bar where the soft drinks are watered down) (all in all, not very 4*!).
You get two manky old pink beach/pool towels to use free at the start but have to pay Euro 1 each every time you want a clean manky pink towel - not very 4* again.
Unfortunately there were no free loungers by the pool by about 8.00 am each morning as the usual ******* were reserving them, 6.00 am sometimes...I mean the breakfast restaurants don't open until 7.30 am so you cant even use that as an excuse....and it wasn't just Germans doing it, the British were doing it too !
Our biggest issue is that we had to complain again about personal items being removed from our room without permission by staff : this time about our fridge not working (NB there’s no freezer compartment) as we had bought some drinks to store, but we also had some prescription medication that needed to be refrigerated at all times. Whilst out one day, we came back to find our broken fridge had been replaced with a new working fridge, brilliant we thought and the drinks had been put back in … BUT worryingly our meds and my makeup had not been put back in the new fridge! Again we had to go back to reception to complain (there are a few receptionists who do not speak/understand a lot of English which makes it hard to get information/ ask questions, and some who are just down right unco-operative and surly😬)… Despite numerous phone calls between the receptionist and the person who had dealt with the fridge, we were told sorry but that our items could not be found, they were gone (WHAT!!). We then had to bluntly tell reception that, if our meds especially were not found, we would be calling the Police as they’re had effectively taking away our personal items without consent and the medication was essential. Amazingly within 5 mins of more tense Spanish phone conversations, the “fridge man” told the receptionist that he had found these items (amazing lol) and they would be put back in our fridge on our return from dinner…. Thankfully they were, but why were these items taken out of our room in the first place ?
We went to the Sky Bar on the 6th floor on our last night to check out what the fuss was all about - absolutely stunning amazing views of the whole bay of Alcudia for what seemed miles…. I weirdly actually felt that I was on a tall cruise ship roof. It’s very smart up there, but be very aware it’s very expensive and not part of your AI package for afternoons and evenings if you have booked AI … we paid circa Euros 17 or 20?? for a rum&coke and coke zero !!
I cannot fault the location right on a wonderful beautiful big beach with the most amazing clear blue water (it’s so cold when you first get in!). It seems to be only one of a handful of hotels actually on the beach in Alcudia which really surprised us after 20+ years. There were great sections of chairs and parasols which cost in total Euros 18.20 per day, payable either by cash, card or pre-bookable in advance(but 4 days minimum, watch which zone you book) but so worth it; each two chairs are chained to each parasol so everyone has their own area and can’t encroach into others (genius), and lockable security boxes for your items, requires Euro1 (returnable) coin to operate (again genius idea).
Overall we were a quite disappointed in Hotel Condesa - we went 21-28 June B&B and paid £2,000 (overpriced in our opinion compared to where we usually go).... It’s definitely not a 4*, more a 3.5* trying to be a 4*. It seems to attract 3* tourists who think it’s ok before 7.30 am and after 10.30pm to run up/down corridors, let their kids scream their heads off whilst running down past everyone's rooms at these times, being super loud (drunk probably?) especially with the paper-thin walls, and for the hotel to allow lots of under 5 year old children to run all over the two restaurants whilst people like us are trying to walk and choose our breakfast and try and enjoy it daily, and trying not to get run over by the "robot" plate machine thingy…. And that’s without the dangerous aspect of it all. It’s only a matter of time before a kid falls, hits their head on the hard floor and ends up seriously injured, and blames the hotel when its all down to the parenting.
It gets the 4* for being on the actual gorgeous beach probably?
Obviously if you pay a huge amount more for your room than we did (£2k), you may feel you are getting the 4* standard I guess?
I WANTED TO GIVE THIS HOTEL 4 STARS, BUT WITH ALL THE ISSUES WE HAD THROUGHOUT, ITS AN EXPENSIVE 3*. WOULD WE RETURN TO MAJORCA AND ALCUDIA…. YES FOR SURE: WOULD WE RETURN TO THIS HOTEL….NO DEFINITELY NEVER UNFORTUNATELY as it is only one of a handful of hotels in Alcudia that are actually ON the beach amazingly being such a long beach of several kilometres."
