Smart city hotel with a rooftop bar
This storied hotel has seen the likes of Hemingway pass through its doors. And while it has changed a lot since those heady days, the Art Deco finishes are a nod to its 1950s beginnings.
The rooftop café and bar, Ático, is the star of the show here, tempting more than just hotel guests to its buzzy atmosphere and city views. There’s also a secret speakeasy, accessed via a passageway and decked out in red velvet and lit with atmospheric lamplights.
Breakfast is served in the main restaurant, and when you’re fuelled up for the day ahead, it’s handy to have the Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centre next door, where there’s a cinema, theatre, and exhibitions. The Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando museums are all within a ten-minute walk.
After returning from the bars and restaurants in Chueca and the Barrio de Las Letras (they’re only five minutes away from the hotel), the rooms are plush and contemporary, with hardwood floors, espresso coffee machines, and bathrobes that give them a premium feel.
