Noisy noisy noisy
"Upon arriving at the metro and exiting it, I realised that the hotel is right next to it which is great. It is between two supermarkets - 24/7 Carrefour and Lidl and makes it convenient for one if you require any groceries. I noticed that there was a huge construction site right in front of the hotel and a few homeless people right close to one of the entry doors of the hotel. There was security to get into the building and I got buzzed in. Upon entry, there was no one at the reception and I was meddling with the check in machine which kinda didn't work. A lady appeared after a while and said the check in machine wasn't working. She proceeded to check me in. Once I got into the room, the drilling noise of the construction was very noticeable with the windows closed. I headed back down to the reception immediately seeking for a change of room but there was no one there. I had to search around and finally found a mobile number to call. The lady answered the phone and said the hotel was full and apologised. She proceeded to say if a room became available, she would inform me to change it - I was booked into the hotel for 5 nights. The room itself had all the necessary amenities including a washing machine and full sized fridge. There was ample space within the apartment but the practicality was slightly lacking. The bathroom had minimal vanity space and one had to put them outside on a rack. Perhaps a couple of shelves could be installed near the vanity. Further, there was no niche in the shower for toiletries and hence they had to be put on the ground in the shower. The screen was good in keeping the water within the shower though. There was one towel hook outside the shower but perhaps another one would be helpful. Whilst beneath the vanity there was a towel rail, it is really low and realistically would only fit the hand towel as the bath towel would be touching the ground if hung there. For sleeping, due to the noise levels, if you would like to have a good night's rest, this wouldn't be the place for you. Being right by the street, one could hear the trains still going even late into the night, pedestrians downstairs shouting, cars and trucks honking etc. One literally wouldn't be able to open the windows for ventilation and light. Even with the windows closed, the noise is still significant. With that, I went down the next morning asking for a change of room and was told that the hotel is full and if there was a cancellation, I would be informed about it. I have another 3 nights to go but am doubtful about being able to change another room. The noise level unfortunately is a huge issue for this hotel."

"I travelled here with my family (10 month old, 4 yr old and wife) The reviews on TripAdvisor were good so we booked this place directly on MH’s website for 5 days (aug 24-29) Upon arrival we were greeted and given our keys right away. Apartment 46, 4th floor facing the side street. 2 bedroom 2 bath. Positives: 1. No issues with noise from the busy streets below. 2. Spacious. 3. Location is central, but not the nicest. So you can literally walk anywhere from here. You can also grab a taxi outside the apt in seconds. 4. Nespresso machine with free pods at arrival. If you opt in for cleaning, they replenish the pods, otherwise you can go downstairs and there are many coffee shops nearby. 5. Supermarket underneath the building 6. Responsive personnel 7. Washing machine (no dryer but hanging rack offered) 8. Good wifi speed Negatives: 1. At check in, the Apartament was not cleaned well, hair and dirt on the floor and in the bathrooms. It was bad enough so that the next day they cleaned our place free of charge. They don’t offer cleaning free of charge so we opted into paying for cleaning everyday (45€ per day) 2. Both bathroom sinks were clogged so we had to ask for them to be fixed. 3. The apt shows wear and tear. The baseboards and walls are damaged or patched up by amateur handyman. 4. The area doesn’t seem safe at night. This is central Madrid, so it’s busy and the crowd outside the apartment can be at times sketchy. 5. If you don’t opt in for daily cleaning and you have trash, you have to take it out and dump it in the nearby square. 6. At the time of this review there are constructions right in front of the entrance After the first night here, I really wanted to get my family out but they wouldn’t reimburse us for the remainder of the trip because they were willing to clean the apt once for free and would unclog our sinks. First impressions is everything, I shouldn’t have to deal with a dirty place and clogged sinks. I am not sure how this place has such a high rating. Maybe I expected too much after reading the reviews Bottom line, if cleanliness is a must for you and your family then don’t go here. We will not be returning here . If you’re not a neat freak and don’t care so much for cleanliness and aesthetics , then this place offers great value for the space provided."
Great location, great rooms: BUT get an upper level room!
"We stayed for 5 days. The room and its amenities were excellent. The location is great if you'd like to explore central Madrid with easy walking access to most of the must-sees. It's also got a good Madrid local vibe. BUT take note that the loading dock entry for the convenience store under the same building abuts this building. NOISILY the trucks servicing that entry arrive very late almost every at night when we were there (e.g. midnight to 4:30 am ish) in Calle del Conde de Romanones right below the building. The loading process with hand-operated fork lifts across the concrete footpath, which takes about 20+ minutes roughly, echoes through the building. We were in apartment 25 - second floor - in the corner. I think lower apartments located similarly to 25/26 (say .. 15/16? 25/36? .. not sure the numbering was consistent with our level) will most likely experience this grinding steel-wheel on concrete reverberation. In fairness, we are unsure if the road construction taking place currently in that Calle means the loading times have changed. Anyway, we liked the apartment, its quality and location - just NOT the late night/early morning cacophony courtesy of the convenience store."
