Catalonia Atocha

"We were looking for a hotel close to the Atocha train station and we were so happy we chose this hotel. We arrived mid morning and the staff was most gracious. We were able to store our luggage until our room was ready. The room was very comfortable, clean and extremely quiet. We decided to purchase the breakfast when we booked our room and we were very impressed with the offering. All of the staff both at reception and in the restuarant were wonderful. The hotel was close to the train station but being in our 70's we decided to use a taxi to the station since we had our luggage and the streets near the station are quite busy."

"The hotel is well located, close to the Prado, but unfortunately that is its main redeeming feature. Due to a last-minute “misunderstanding,” my booking was cancelled shortly before arrival and later reinstated at check-in, resulting - coincidentally? - in a grim ground-floor room facing a dark internal courtyard. The room was tiny, poorly lit, noisy, and not remotely worth the price. The bathroom had stained tiles, the reading lights were falling apart, and overall maintenance was visibly lacking. Although the hotel advertises itself as dog-friendly, this is misleading. A €200 deposit plus €20 per night is required, yet no amenities are provided - not even a basic dog bed. Trust clearly does not travel on four legs here. Staff were unfriendly at check-in, and on departure a staff member inspected the room before returning the deposit, which summed up the general atmosphere rather well. Overall, a joyless experience. I would not stay here again"
