"I have just returned home from 8 days at the ilunion - 2 adults and 2 teens. We stayed in a 2 bedroom
Villa in the 600 area of the complex.
Location is simply stunning - a few moments stroll from a beautiful beach which stretches for miles along picture postcard sandy beaches and bays. Matagorda is peaceful with a laid back vibe. A long promenade stretches along the coastline, perfect for leisurely walks with incredible sea views. It is simple to travel along the coast to neighbouring towns - a large mall, with Zara, Ale-hop etc is a short bus ride away. We regularly walked this route taking approximately an hour along the coast.
The hotel complex is friendly, clean, spacious and with plenty of space to relax and unwind without feeling crowded. Restaurant and Bar Staff are incredibly friendly and chat with ease whenever you meet.
Pool towels are free on arrival and can be changed every other day.
Breakfast is fantastic - plenty of choice of fresh breads, fruit, cereal, pancakes, waffles, pastries, hot options and plenty of coffee and fresh juice. Lactose and gluten free options are available.
Dinner is the only issue - it is repetitive, often cold and there is not enough choice. We went half-board, which we regretted and ate out several times in the evening.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa in the 600 area with all day sun on a private terrace. The villa itself was huge, immaculately clean and with everything you need for a high-quality stay. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge has 2 large corner sofas and a 42in tv with English/European channels - there is plenty of space for everyone. The main bedroom has a massive super-king bed. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds. Bedding was a duvet for each guest and plenty of soft pillows. We all slept very soundly. Large wardrobes in each room provided plenty of storage. Bathroom has a walk-in power shower. Sun loungers and outdoor patio table seating was a lovely touch and we often chose to use that terrace rather than sit around the pool as it was so private and quiet.
Bungalows are smaller and the outdoor spaces provided back onto the man footpath and pool. We walked past these daily. We were very glad we upgraded to a larger property in a nicer location with more privacy. If in doubt go for the Villa - they are all south facing unlike other rooms/ apartments that did not have all day sun and were in communal walking areas.
Housekeeping is professional and prompt. It is daily except for Wednesday and Sunday. The villas are cleaned late afternoon. We had no issues with security here and felt safe and secure, often going out early morning for the entire day.
Sun loungers are available all day - reservations are not allowed but also not needed. Plenty of outdoor seating is provided around the pool which is near the pool bar and main restaurant.
For us the lack of a mini club and evening entertainment adds to the peaceful atmosphere here and the laidback vibe. There are not many very young families here which suited us well! Cliental seems to be young couples and older teens with extended family.
There are a few disgruntled timeshare people staying here, in a legal battle to keep their time slots since the property changed hands. We met a delightful couple who simply wanted to continue visiting this hotel in line with their contract but faced a constant battle - ilunion let these customers have their 2 weeks holiday. Be kind!
What does need to change is the quality of the evening meal and the attitude of reception staff who are not very friendly but all in all, very impressed with this 4 star resort which is well deserving of its rating.
Check in is at 4pm."
