"AVOID THIS HOTEL – One of the Most Disappointing Family Holidays We Have Ever Experienced
Rating: 1/5 – Terrible
We booked Insotel Tarida Beach Resort & Spa in Ibiza expecting a high-quality, premium family holiday. What we experienced instead was an astonishing catalogue of problems involving cleanliness, accommodation standards, food safety, maintenance and the general management of the resort.
I genuinely struggle to understand how a hotel positioning itself as a premium family resort can consider these standards acceptable.
1. Completely Unsuitable Accommodation Upon Arrival
We were initially allocated Room 1121, which required navigating three flights of stairs. My wife has a medical condition affecting her ability to manage stairs, and we were travelling with our young daughter and pushchair.
Once the problem was raised, we were relocated to Room 514.
You might assume that relocating a family with approximately 75kg of luggage would involve some practical assistance.
Apparently not.
I ended up moving the luggage myself, with assistance only offered approximately an hour later.
Hardly the welcome you would expect from a supposedly premium resort.
2. Room 514 – Absolutely Unacceptable Cleanliness
Our replacement room was arguably even more disappointing.
We encountered stained bedding, questionable marks on towels, mosquito issues and generally poor standards of presentation and maintenance.
I have photographic evidence showing dark and reddish marks on the bed linen, marks on towels, deteriorating bathroom finishes and unsightly areas around fixtures and fittings.
Here is the extraordinary part:
THE ROOM HAS BEEN CLEANED TWICE SINCE WE RAISED THESE CONCERNS.
Yet the visible issues remained.
Twice.
How can housekeeping enter a room, supposedly complete the necessary cleaning, and still leave the same visibly marked bedding and other concerns unresolved?
This is not a matter of being overly particular. Clean bedding and a properly maintained room are basic expectations, not luxury extras.
3. No Effective Heating – Freezing at Night
During our stay in late October, the room became extremely cold overnight.
The air-conditioning system did not produce warmth when we increased the temperature.
To make matters worse, there was only ONE additional blanket provided for our entire family.
We were travelling with a young child, and my wife has a medical condition, making comfortable sleeping conditions particularly important.
At this time of year, having no effective means of warming the room is unacceptable.
A hotel charging premium prices should be capable of providing something as fundamental as a comfortable room temperature.
4. Our Young Daughter Fell on a Wet-Looking Walkway
This was undoubtedly one of the most upsetting incidents of our holiday.
Our young daughter fell on the wooden walkway leading towards the Sunset Bar.
She sustained a scrape and visible red marks, experienced considerable pain and was understandably distressed.
We administered first aid ourselves, including a cold compress.
Photographs taken during our stay show visible moisture on the walkway, anti-slip strips that appear worn in places, and no wet-floor warning signage within the photographed area.
When we raised the incident, the response focused partly on the fact that anti-slip material was installed on the walkway.
But having anti-slip strips does not automatically establish that an area was safe at the time of an accident.
We were also asked whether our daughter had required medical attention.
We did not attend an emergency department because we managed her immediate injuries ourselves. That should not make the incident any less worthy of investigation.
As parents, this was extremely upsetting and further undermined our confidence in the resort.
5. Served Pork That Appeared Visibly Undercooked
As if the accommodation and safety concerns were not enough, I was served pork at lunch that appeared visibly undercooked.
Thankfully, I noticed before eating it.
I photographed the food and formally reported the concern.
We were subsequently informed that the Food & Beverage Manager was investigating.
When you are paying for a family holiday, you should not have to question whether food has been properly cooked before eating it.
This was yet another entirely avoidable concern that further damaged our confidence in the hotel.
6. Plenty of Apologies, Very Little Meaningful Resolution
Throughout our stay, we repeatedly reported problems and supplied photographic evidence.
We were told that rooms had been cleaned, matters had been escalated, departments were investigating and management had been informed.
Yet, from our perspective, the underlying problems continued.
When we discussed alternative accommodation, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and no upgrades were available.
Eventually, my wife became so distressed and disappointed with the overall experience that she wanted to fly home early.
We actually explored the possibility of returning to the UK before the end of our holiday.
Think about that. We paid for a family holiday in Ibiza, and reached the point where we were looking at flights to escape the experience.
That is how badly this holiday had deteriorated.
7. Is This Really What a Premium Family Resort Should Offer?
We are not demanding perfection.
Hotels occasionally make mistakes. Rooms sometimes need attention. Problems can arise.
What separates a good hotel from a poor one is how consistently it maintains standards and how effectively it puts things right.
Our experience at Insotel Tarida Beach has been a succession of problems, followed by explanations, apologies and investigations, without a satisfactory outcome during our stay.
We have spent an extraordinary amount of our holiday taking photographs, documenting concerns, communicating with management and attempting to get issues addressed.
These are precious family memories and time we will never get back.
We have now formally requested financial compensation through TUI.
My Final Verdict
I cannot recommend this hotel based on our experience.
The setting and views may be attractive, but beautiful surroundings mean very little when the accommodation, cleanliness, comfort and overall guest experience fail to meet reasonable expectations.
A premium holiday should feel like a premium holiday.
Ours felt like a prolonged complaints process.
My advice to families considering this resort: look very carefully at recent reviews, examine the room photographs and think seriously before spending your hard-earned money here.
I will be uploading photographic evidence so prospective guests can assess the conditions for themselves.
One star – and an experience we deeply regret booking."
