Reviews
Lovely pool, excellent location, but a rather sleepy resort!
"A peaceful place to stay at the right price, but definitely not somewhere to book if you're looking for a lively holiday. We recently spent a week at Rebecca Park in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria, staying in one of the studio apartments rather than a bungalow. We booked through EasyJet Holidays. I wanted to write a fairly detailed review because, when researching the property before booking, I found it surprisingly difficult to get a clear picture of what to expect, particularly from a British visitor's perspective. There are some recent reviews, but many of the photographs uploaded by previous guests are considerably older, showing furniture and layouts that have since changed. To be fair, the more recent photographs provided by management, which appear to have been updated in April, are much more representative of the property today. Rebecca Park also seems to attract a fairly international mix of visitors, including plenty of older couples, and there didn't seem to be a great deal of recent feedback from British holidaymakers. Unfortunately, we didn't take many photographs ourselves (which feels slightly hypocritical given how much we relied on other people's!), so hopefully this detailed review will help anyone considering booking. Arrival and first impressions: Check-in was straightforward. The gentleman on reception was pleasant, efficient and seemed to be expecting us. The reception area was exceptionally quiet, which, as it turned out, was a fairly good indication of the atmosphere throughout the resort. The staff were always polite and smiled when we encountered them, although I wouldn't describe the service as particularly attentive. There wasn't a great deal of interaction with staff during our stay, and the whole place felt quite hands-off. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you prefer being left to your own devices, but don't expect particularly proactive service. The studio apartment – a rather strange layout: Our biggest frustration was undoubtedly the layout of the studio apartment. The furniture appeared to have been updated and was generally in good condition, but the way the room was configured just didn't make much sense to us. The bed was effectively sectioned off from the main living area, while the television was positioned away from the bed. There was no sofa, just a table and chairs, meaning there wasn't really anywhere comfortable to sit and watch television. In fact, we didn't turn the television on once during our entire stay because of this. It might sound like a small complaint, but if you're staying for a week and want to return to your apartment for a few hours before heading out in the evening, having somewhere comfortable to relax makes a difference. The bed itself was reasonably comfortable, particularly for side sleepers, and we weren't disturbed by any significant outside noise. The only notable nighttime disturbance came from my partner's snoring, which I don't think we can reasonably blame on Rebecca Park! However, there were some other practical issues. There was no bedside table on one side of the bed, and only one electrical socket in the entire bedroom area, which was already being used by the bedside lamp. This meant unplugging the lamp whenever we wanted to charge our phones, watches or other devices. Thankfully, we'd brought an extension lead and various adapters, but without those, it would have been quite inconvenient. If you're travelling with several electronic devices, I'd strongly recommend packing an extension lead. On the positive side, the air conditioning worked very well, which was particularly welcome in the Gran Canaria heat. Cleanliness was generally good, and the furniture was in decent condition. One slightly strange issue on our first night was that we couldn't seem to get properly cold water from the taps, even after leaving them running for a while. Kitchen and bathroom: The kitchen was actually very well equipped, with a good selection of crockery, glasses and utensils. We certainly had no complaints about that side of the accommodation. The bathroom, however, was fairly compact. There was very little space around the sink and no shelving for storing toiletries, which made things a little impractical for two people. The shower was perfectly functional, although it could probably benefit from some updating. Interestingly, we spoke to another guest staying in one of the bungalows who suggested our shower was actually better than theirs. That made us wonder whether the bathrooms have been refurbished to different standards across the resort, although we obviously can't confirm that. One thing we particularly missed was a hairdryer. Having previously stayed at Axel Beach, where one was provided, we'd perhaps taken that for granted. There was an electrical socket in the bathroom, although you'd want to check that it was suitable for your appliance if planning to bring your own hairdryer. Overall, the bathroom was small but functional. A little more storage, an updated shower and a hairdryer would have made a noticeable difference. Housekeeping – a little inconsistent: Housekeeping was another area that left us slightly puzzled. There are signs in the bathroom instructing guests not to flush toilet paper, but instead to dispose of it in the bin provided. We understand that this is sometimes necessary because of local plumbing arrangements. However, if guests are expected to put used toilet paper in a bin, you'd reasonably expect that bin to be emptied regularly. During our stay, housekeeping seemed rather inconsistent. We went approximately three days without seeing any sign of a housekeeping visit, only to then have cleaners appear on three consecutive days. On some occasions, fresh towels were simply left outside the apartment door without anyone knocking. We did eventually encounter the cleaners, although we were still in bed at the time. We're certainly not expecting a full apartment clean every single day, but a more consistent approach to bathroom waste collection would have been appreciated, particularly given the instructions about toilet paper. By comparison, when we'd previously stayed at Axel Beach, housekeeping was almost relentlessly attentive! Rebecca Park was very much the opposite experience. A slight issue with the room keys: We also experienced a strange problem with our electronic room keys. Several days into our stay, both keys suddenly stopped working at the same time. Reception resolved the problem quite efficiently, which we appreciated. We were told that our mobile phones might have interfered with the keys, although we found it slightly coincidental that both stopped working simultaneously, several days after arriving and shortly after housekeeping had attempted to access our room. We can't say what actually caused the problem, and it was resolved without much fuss, but it's worth mentioning. The swimming pool – probably the highlight: The pool area was easily one of the best aspects of Rebecca Park. The swimming pool was heated, which was lovely, and there were plenty of comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas. Throughout most of our stay, the pool area was exceptionally quiet. On a couple of occasions, we were the only people there. If you're looking for somewhere to relax in the sunshine without competing for sunbeds, this is a definite advantage. There's also a toilet nearby and a small pool bar offering a fairly limited selection of drinks and refreshments, including beer, sangria and ice creams. The bar was generally very quiet, and on the Monday we departed, it appeared to be closed for the entire day, despite the pool area being noticeably busier than it had been during the rest of our stay. There was no music or entertainment around the pool. The only noticeable background noise was a fairly constant hum from what sounded like ventilation equipment, although it wasn't particularly disruptive. We also brought some of our own drinks and snacks to the pool area, and nobody raised any objections, although we can't say whether this is officially permitted. One thing worth mentioning is that some of the older photographs uploaded by visitors show a different pool layout and make it appear as though the swimming pool is immediately alongside the bungalows. The pool area is now more enclosed and separate than those older images suggest. However, the more recent photographs provided by management appear to give a much more accurate impression of the resort as it looks today. Atmosphere – very, very quiet! I think this is probably the most important thing to understand about Rebecca Park. It is an extremely quiet resort. We were travelling as a gay couple and had previously stayed at Axel Beach, just a short distance away. We weren't necessarily expecting Rebecca Park to offer the same experience, but we were surprised by just how sleepy the whole place felt. There were no organised activities, no poolside entertainment and very little social atmosphere. One thing that perhaps summed up the atmosphere was being able to hear The Macarena and YMCA playing at the pool bar of a neighbouring resort, while we were lying beside our own almost silent pool, surrounded by three or four couples who looked to be well into their eighties. It's not that we were particularly desperate to get up and dance to either song (although who doesn't love a bit of Spice Girls?), but there was something slightly frustrating about hearing everyone else seemingly having a good time while we were sitting in almost complete silence. It did make us feel a little like all the fun was happening over the fence! Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a peaceful resort, and for some people that will be Rebecca Park's biggest selling point. From what we saw, the resort seemed particularly popular with older couples and attracted quite an international mix of guests. If you're hoping to meet other holidaymakers, enjoy a lively pool area or find somewhere with a bit more of a social scene, this probably isn't the right accommodation. Similarly, if you're visiting Playa del Inglés specifically for its lively LGBTQ+ scene, don't expect that atmosphere to extend into Rebecca Park itself. That's not necessarily a criticism. Some people will absolutely love the peace and quiet. I can imagine it being particularly appealing to older couples or anyone whose priority is simply to relax in the sun. For us, however, it felt a little too quiet. Location – excellent One area where Rebecca Park really delivers is its location. The Yumbo Centre is approximately a five-minute walk away, making it incredibly convenient for the bars, restaurants, shops and nightlife of Playa del Inglés. There's also a few, well-stocked shop nearby for everyday essentials. We really couldn't fault the location, particularly given what we'd paid for our stay. It's close enough to everything that you can easily head out for the evening, while the resort itself remains peaceful. Would we stay again? Possibly, but it would depend entirely on the price and what sort of holiday we were looking for. There are definitely positives. The location is excellent, the heated swimming pool is lovely, the air conditioning works well, the kitchen is well equipped, and the resort is exceptionally peaceful. The staff were pleasant whenever we encountered them, and the one maintenance issue we experienced with our door keys was resolved efficiently. However, the awkward studio layout, limited electrical sockets, compact bathroom, inconsistent housekeeping and lack of atmosphere all detracted from the overall experience. If we were to return, we'd probably consider booking one of the bungalows rather than another studio apartment, although we can't comment on what those are like inside. I also think prospective visitors should pay particular attention to the more recent management photographs rather than relying on older pictures uploaded by previous guests, as parts of the property have clearly changed over the years. Ultimately, if you get a good deal and simply want somewhere quiet to sleep, sunbathe and use as a base for exploring Playa del Inglés, Rebecca Park could be perfectly suitable. But if you're looking for somewhere with a bit of personality, a lively atmosphere or comfortable accommodation where you can spend time relaxing indoors in the evening, I'd suggest considering other options. It's not a bad place to stay by any means. It just feels like a resort that knows its audience, and we probably weren't quite that audience."
disappointed
"resort was very good, cleaned every day and place was friendly transfer back to airport failed to turn up and was very disappointed with easy jet and staff at rebecca park who didnt help at all. was more interested in cooking dinner than assisting us. had to book a taxi and just made it to the airport at a cost of 50 euros. have since found it impossible to get reimbursed due to automatic phone calls and going round in circles"
Awful
"This place is awful it’s like a place you might have stayed in in the 80s - nothing should persuade anyone to book it - it’s cheap but nasty. You can’t flush toilet roll down the toilet so they give you an open bin to put it in"
