"Club Maspalomas Suites & Spa was everything we wanted and more. My boyfriend and I stayed in a Junior Suite (the most basic room category), and even that exceeded our expectations, so I can only imagine the more premium rooms maintain the same standards — if not better!
Our room was absolutely spotless, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the air conditioning kept it lovely and cool throughout our stay. It was also really well equipped, with a secure safe, rainfall and handheld showers, and everything we needed for a comfortable week.
The food was fantastic and genuinely felt like premium cuisine. With buffet hotels, there can sometimes be a trade-off between quantity and quality, but that absolutely wasn’t the case here. There was still a huge amount of choice, while the quality remained excellent. During our stay, we had fish and vegetable paella, suckling pig, cauliflower cheese, stews and curries, a Chinese-themed night and so much more. I particularly recommend trying the little bruschetta pieces with the tomato topping at dinner — I went back for these more times than I’d like to admit!
Breakfast was equally delicious, with a full English available every morning alongside plenty of other options. I also loved the chocolate Rice Krispies with chilled rice milk, and the freshly made pancakes from the live cooking station were amazing.
The pool area was another highlight. It had such a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and was generally lovely and quiet, but there was still some soft background music playing throughout the day, which added to the ambience without ever being intrusive. It struck the perfect balance between having a bit of a holiday vibe and still feeling calm and relaxing.
I had two massages at the spa during our stay and both were fantastic. I also made plenty of use of the heated spa pool, which has built-in jacuzzi areas and fountains, as well as the sauna, steam room and poolside showers. The pool was beautifully warm — almost like getting into a bath — and extremely clean. There is also a dedicated swimming lane, which was great for getting some exercise in. My boyfriend used the fully equipped gym and was equally impressed.
The activities were another unexpected highlight. When we arrived, there was a Canary Islands food workshop where we learned about the different islands and tasted various local foods and alcoholic drinks, all included with our booking.
We also did a wine and cheese evening combined with painting, which was also included in the booking at no extra cost — you just need to pre-book your place at reception. Everyone voted for their favourite painting at the end of the evening, and the winner received a bottle of wine. Spoiler alert: I won 🙌, so we enjoyed a few glasses outside our room before dinner!
There was also aqua aerobics every other day and a paella workshop. We didn’t attend the paella workshop ourselves, but it looked brilliant.
We ventured out to the local market on Wednesday, which runs every Wednesday and Sunday. If the location of the hotel is something making you hesitant to book, I really wouldn’t let it put you off. Taxis were very inexpensive and always readily available outside the hotel. We simply asked our driver to take us to the morning market and he knew exactly where to go.
A special shoutout to Titti, who made us feel incredibly welcome and comfortable during the second half of our stay — especially impressive considering she had only started waitressing at the hotel a few days earlier!
There were only a few very minor things that could be improved, none of which came remotely close to affecting how much we enjoyed our stay:
* The hot chocolate and chocolate sauce dispensers at breakfast didn’t always cooperate with us, as the sauce was too thick to pour. That said, the freshly made pancakes from the live cooking station were still absolutely delicious without the chocolate sauce, so hardly a tragedy.
* The air conditioning occasionally made a little noise, but this was extremely minor and completely unbothersome. We slept perfectly well, and I’m sure the hotel would have happily sorted it had we actually been bothered enough to mention it — it simply didn’t impact our holiday enough for us to bring it up!
* Sunbed availability was generally spectacular — we could find beds at pretty much any time of day. Saturday was the only exception, as the hotel seems to be more popular with local day-pass visitors at the weekend, so I’d recommend heading down a little earlier if you want your preferred spot.
Overall, we had an absolutely fantastic stay and will definitely be returning. The value for money was exceptional, particularly considering the quality of the food, facilities, accommodation and activities.
Thank you to all the staff at Club Maspalomas Suites & Spa for making our final student holiday so memorable before we both start our adult jobs this autumn. It was the perfect way to end that chapter! ☀️"
