"Brontemar Beach Hotel, Fuerteventura – Our 11-Night Family Stay
We’ve just come back from an 11-night stay at the Brontemar Beach Hotel in Fuerteventura, travelling as three generations — myself (55), my daughter (33) and my eight-year-old grandson — and overall, we had a fantastic holiday.
There are a few things that could be improved, but the positives far outweighed the negatives, and there are some people at this hotel who really made our stay special.
🏠 Our apartment
We had a one-bedroom apartment with a small outdoor balcony area, and for the three of us it was absolutely perfect.
There were two large single beds which were more like small doubles, so we pushed them together and all slept comfortably. There was a ceiling fan in the bedroom, and the hotel also provided us with an additional fan free of charge.
I had read previous reviews about the lack of air conditioning and had actually considered buying or hiring an air-conditioning unit before we went. We travelled from 29 July to 9 August, and honestly, we didn't need one.
Air conditioning would obviously have been a bonus, but we coped absolutely fine without it. The bedroom shutters lock, so we felt comfortable leaving the windows open, which helped enormously.
🍽️ Food
I certainly didn't starve! 😂 We ate every day and there was always something we could find.
That said, after 11 nights, the food did become a little repetitive. There were themed nights, including Mexican, Italian and Chinese, and I appreciate that hotels probably work on a weekly rotation, so some repetition is to be expected.
Breakfast, however, was fantastic. There was a really wide range of choices, and the bread selection was always excellent. The onion rings were also absolutely on point!
There was always a good salad selection, and some of the individual dishes were genuinely amazing. The lamb was fantastic, and the duck on Chinese night was incredible.
Desserts were another highlight. There was always a great selection of cakes and desserts, and the ice cream was fantastic too.
The one thing I would suggest improving is the choice for children who are particularly fussy eaters. We saw lots of families with young children, and it would be helpful to have some simple options available regularly — things like chicken nuggets, plain pasta and sausages.
So, while we did notice some repetition, there was still plenty of food, and there were some really lovely meals.
🍹 Drinks, bar and pool snacks
The bar staff were great — friendly and hardworking.
The all-inclusive drinks are mainly local spirits and drinks, but you can also have cocktails. There is a small selection of cocktails included in the all-inclusive, and if you fancy something different, the other cocktails were only €3, which I thought was fantastic.
The bar can get quite busy, so I think having a little more bar staff during the busiest times could benefit them. However, even when it was busy, I don't think I ever waited more than about six minutes for a drink, so it certainly wasn't a major issue.
Coffee, tea, water and soft drinks are self-service, with Coke, Fanta, lemonade and similar drinks available for guests to help themselves.
The pool bar snacks were also always available, with burgers, hot dogs and toasties. The ham, cheese and onion toasties were absolutely amazing! Little ice creams were also available, which was great for the children.
👏 The staff
There were lots of staff who worked incredibly hard throughout our stay, and I think they deserve recognition.
A special mention has to go to Elizabeth in the restaurant. She was always so friendly and had a smile on her face. I would usually take my own plate up and empty it, and that's actually how I started chatting to her because she thanked me for doing it. She was such a lovely lady and clearly worked very hard.
And then there was Pablo at the bar! 😂
Every time I saw him, I probably embarrassed him by shouting, "PABLO!" across the place. He was always friendly, hardworking and welcoming, and would say hello and serve you with a smile.
People like Elizabeth and Pablo really add to the atmosphere of a holiday, and we genuinely appreciated them.
⭐ A VERY SPECIAL MENTION — EMMA ⭐
I honestly cannot say enough about Emma from the entertainment team.
From day one, this lovely girl got us involved in absolutely everything. I'm 55, my daughter is 33 and my grandson is eight, and somehow Emma managed to make all three of us feel included.
I played darts, volleyball, water polo, magic carpet, French boules, water aerobics and even one of those wooden tabletop games where you slide discs into different scoring slots. My daughter actually won that game one day!
But it was Emma who encouraged me to get involved.
She is bubbly, friendly, caring and genuinely interested in people. She gives her time to both the children and the adults and makes an effort to get to know people rather than just doing her job and moving on.
She is an absolute natural.
You can see that she genuinely loves what she does. When she's performing or on the microphone, she absolutely glows. She grabs everyone's attention simply by being herself, and she has this amazing ability to make people want to join in.
Her aqua aerobics was fantastic. One afternoon there were so many people taking part that when we did the "bicycle splash", the whole pool seemed to be surrounded!
The entertainment shows the team put on themselves were hilarious and involved everyone. They were also brilliant at keeping the children engaged and making sure they knew where they needed to be.
We were lucky enough to see two of their show nights, and the second one included some new routines. My favourite was the Blues Brothers routine with Luigi and Emma — honestly, it was absolutely amazing.
The whole entertainment team — Emma, Luigi, Fanny, Mario, Karina, Emily and Alexandra — worked so hard, and they deserve huge credit.
But Emma, in particular, is something special.
She isn't just good at her job. She is genuinely a beautiful human being, and you can tell she loves being around people. She is absolutely made for that role and is a massive credit to the hotel.
We absolutely adored her, and honestly, she is one of the reasons we would go back to this hotel.
Emma, we love you and we miss you already! ❤️
📍 The location and surrounding area
The location is fantastic.
Just a three-minute walk from the hotel, there is a large Chinese/variety shop where the children can pick up little bits and pieces, and there are plenty of other small shops around selling souvenirs, trinkets and jewellery.
There is also a little supermarket on site, which has all the basic necessities. It's a decent size, although I think they could potentially stock a little more.
Locally, there are supermarkets selling fresh fruit and vegetables, alcohol, biscuits, crisps, ice creams, toiletries and pretty much anything else you might need. There are also a couple of pharmacies nearby.
Everything is really convenient.
🏖️ The beach
The beach is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and the walk is very flat and easy.
There were plenty of sunbeds available, and they were €10 for two beds and an umbrella for the day.
The beach itself is beautiful, with lovely sand. However, if you want really clear water and don't want to walk over stones when getting into the sea, I'd recommend walking towards the far left-hand side of the beach. We found that area to be pure sand and absolutely beautiful.
The sea temperature was lovely too.
Towards the end of the left-hand pier there is also an area where you can see seals and other wildlife. We didn't actually do the activity, but we walked down that way and really enjoyed it.
🍴 Eating out
If you're not all-inclusive, or simply fancy eating somewhere different, there is a fantastic choice of restaurants nearby.
You can find Indian, Chinese, steakhouse and lots of other options.
Our favourite steakhouse was Kobe. There's a huge Batman figure outside, which is brilliant for children, and the food was lovely. Their dry white wine was also particularly good.
If you sit towards the left-hand side towards the back, there's also a lovely cooling mist, which was really nice.
🛍️ Markets and shopping
There are markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays where you can have a wander around and barter.
We came away with four bags, including a football kit, so I was extremely happy! 😂 It was definitely an experience.
My advice would be to take water with you because it can get very hot, and make sure you keep hydrated.
Also, don't buy something you like from the first shop you see. Have a look around and compare prices.
I saw a ring I really liked for €15 in one shop, then found the same type of thing for €10 somewhere else, and another shop had one for €6.
So explore, look around and don't be afraid to shop around. It's a lovely area to wander around.
🍹 Bars and entertainment nearby
There are some lovely bars nearby too.
Piros was great for karaoke and live singers, and the drinks were good.
There was even a magician walking around doing magic tricks for tips, which was good fun — although, to be fair, we had our own "hotel magician" because of another family we met during our holiday! 😂
✈️ Transfers
The hotel is also really conveniently located for the airport.
We were the last stop on the coach when we arrived, but the transfer was only around 20 minutes.
On the way back, we were picked up very quickly and the journey to the airport was only around 10 minutes.
So despite being the last stop on arrival, it really isn't far away at all.
❤️ Overall
Would I recommend Brontemar Beach Hotel?
Yes, absolutely.
Is it perfect? No. The lack of air conditioning would be a bonus if it was available, the food could be varied a little more over a longer stay, and the bar could perhaps benefit from another member of staff at busy times.
But would those things stop me going back?
No.
The apartment was comfortable, the location was fantastic, the beach was beautiful, there were plenty of places to eat and shop nearby, and the staff worked incredibly hard.
But most importantly, the people we met made our holiday.
We met some wonderful families, made some lovely memories, and had an entertainment team that genuinely made us get involved rather than just sit and watch.
And then there was Emma.
We got home at around half past two this morning and, honestly, we already miss her and all the amazing families we met.
For us, that's what makes a holiday memorable.
