Depends on how you like to spend your time. Hole up in the resort for the week? No need. But if you're keen to explore your surroundings, a car can come in very handy. And if you're eyeing up Isla Canela for a golfing holiday, renting a car is definitely a great shout, as it'll make getting to and from the courses much easier. You needn't worry about the drive from Faro Airport, either, and it's only an hour and there's no official border to deal with.
