"Just back from another 7 night stay at the Aquamarina Hotel & Spa in Santa Susanna.
Arrived at Girona on time, EES system was well organised and we were through and out in no time. Car hire was a breeze, and we were at the hotel within an hour of landing.
Check-in isn't until 4pm but we arrived at the hotel at around 11am, expected to just leave our bags and head out but our room was ready when we arrived, which was fab. The hotel offers underground and also outside parking in a gated lot for a cost but we parked in the free public car park which is a five minute walk up the road.
We'd booked a Lumiere Suite and having stayed there before we asked if we could be up high as possible as sometimes when the entertainment is on, if you need to get to sleep earlier it can be noisy. They accommodated our request and put us on the 5th floor and we had no noise issues at all.
The suites are near the lifts so there can be a little noise when people enter/exit the lifts but its gone in a flash.
The suite was gorgeous as usual, bed absolutely massive and very comfy, huge walk in shower, and huge bath. Lovely big dressing area, which had dressing gowns and slippers in. Also there was a sofa and coffee table area for relaxing.
The Lumiere Suite comes with a free safe which I think you have to pay a deposit for in the other rooms. It also comes with free access to the Spa and Gym, although you have to book the Spa sessions. As we didn't use these, I cant comment on treatment costs etc. There is a small fridge, but no tea or coffee facilities, but the hotel bar makes a lovely coffee at a reasonable price. The balcony is huge and has a table for two people and also two deckchairs and all the Lumiere Suites are overlooking the pool. The added bonus of being on the top floor was that we also had a gorgeous sea view above the trees. This was slightly obstructed as they are building a new hotel on the beach, which was also a little noisy but it didn't intrude that much.
The hotel also offers a pool towel service, for 10 euros deposit on each towel, which you can change every day if you wish by going to reception and of course you get your deposit back when you return them at the end of your stay.
The pool area is lovely, small pool for small kids and then the larger pool for everyone else. There is also a little solarium area (adults only) up some steps at the side of the building, which has a jacuzzi in and is lovely and quiet.
We had booked half board but only used the restaurant once for breakfast, food is typical hotel food, plenty of variety, hot and cold, cereals, fruit and of course the free Cava you can have if you fancy a quick tipple first thing.
If you have booked half board but don't want to use the restaurant in the evening, if you take your room card to the restaurant lunch time, you can swap your evening for lunch instead. Again, there is a good variety of different cuisines and the waiters are always around for drinks etc.
The hotel bar is lovely and has a number of different areas you can sit in.
Pool tables and games for the kids, and they also have a kids disco every night before the adults entertainment.
There are also 4 different televisions there and if there is anything specific you want to watch, they will try their best to find it.
The staff there are second to none, we were served by Roger, Dani, Hannah, Fabio and Margarita, who all spoke very good English and by the end of the week, all felt like old friends. Drinks were no more expensive than anywhere else.
We were staying in Santa Susanna as we were heading to the MotoGP at Catalunya which is only a 30-40 minute drive away and would definitely recommend staying in this area if you are heading to the track.
The local area has lots of different bars and restaurants to try, with different cultures being catered for. For Brits, there is The Drunken Duck pub less than 5 mins walk from the hotel. Phil and Jo who own it go above and beyond to make you feel at home.
All in all. we had an absolutely amazing week once again, and cannot wait to come back again next year."
