Tropic Park Hotel

"Very mixed feelings about this hotel it’s classed as a 4 star but have experienced little to prove it, the hotel itself is in a good location overlooking the ocean but due to a local storm the night before and rain as we arrived at 10.30 the transfer could only pull up about 300 meters away, not knowing the area we turned down the street and had to walk round to the door, tired and now wet we checked in and the room was adequate at best, no kettle or hot drinks available we came down to the bar to be informed that drinks for all inclusive guests finished at 11pm fair enough but we were not informed at check in and as it was 11.05 it left a bitter end to a long day, the following day we asked if we could reserve the room for late check out to be told we would have to come back and ask the day before departure again fair enough so proceed to the food area for breakfast all the meals were varied and adequate a little repetitive but there is no real system in operation so it’s a bit chaotic trying to find a table you are not allowed to help yourself to drinks so you have to grab a table and wait for a member of staff to serve you when you get your drink you can then join in the ruckus, me personally does not drink alcohol so opted for a soft drink this seemed to upset the staff every time as they had to disappear somewhere to get it, on the 3/4 occasion in the dining room I spotted a soft drink fridge I got a bottle of Fanta that had a cap on it and asked someone to remove the cap to which I was shouted at the bottle snatched off me and told to sit like a naughty school boy which wasn’t pleasant in a packed dining room but again they disappeared and returned with a glass of Fanta ( no idea what the difference is but hey ho, on our final day we returned to ask about late check out and this time was told if we wanted to check out by two it would be €50 or if by 5pm it would be €80 we had an evening flight so €80 option it had to be but again had to come ask in the morning, we decided to have an early night as we were leaving the following day but about 9pm we were woke by a phone call of a very rude receptionist asking if and why we had not confirmed late check out we said we tried but had to come in the morning to which the phone was put down, in the morning my partner went to the receptionist and asked for the 5pm check out to be told that we could be not have the room until 4pm but it was still €80 ok fair enough we Paid and then did some last minute souvenir shopping, we came back at 10am to find we could not get back in the room again trudge down to reception to sort it came up stairs until 1pm we decided to go for a coffee in the bar but were chased through reception by the receptionist and told we had to remove our wristbands so if anyone is looking for late check out it means you can have the room but not the rest of the facilities including food and drink unless you pay full restaurant prices on top at this point I decided to use the supermarket across the street pack The room up and exit. We have not been made to feel welcome the entire trip and one of the serving staff when asking our room number said oh that’s a nice room so I suspect we have paid substantially more to stay here than others, in my job I have to deal with difficult people everyday but I couldn’t be bothered trying to with these staff as I got nowhere the entire time I had to ask for anything, if you book just think local place for local people and you will be ok."

"I like to review all aspects of my holiday to give a balanced and informative view. Stayed here with my sister recently. Room - was fine, not very spacious though. I personally don't like the fact that there was no door on the bathroom/shower. Seems to be (perhaps) geared towards couples but surely there are plenty of family/friends who want somewhere private to shower! Mini fridge in the room which was a bonus and a lovely sea view. Cleaners came in every day to make the beds and empty the bins. Also left us water and a treat every day. Pool area was nice, always able to get a sunbed either by the pool or the surrounding areas by the kids pool or garden area. Bar staff at the pool were lovely and it made such a nice change to have proper (large) glasses to drink from. Restaurant - Food was nice, had a couple of theme nights, the Mexican night was great, we really enjoyed the food. Drinks are served by the waitress looking after your table. Staff again, were really nice. I can't comment on the entertainment as we never experienced it as our preference is to relax with a drink in our room after eating. Malgrat de Mar - It's a much more traditional resort than your more commercialised resorts. The town was nice with your usual sort of shops and lots of lovely squares to sit and relax in. We took a trip up the funicular railway to the park at the top. Nice area and the views are stunning looking over the town. Train station there if you'd like to venture further afield. Beach was beautiful and stretched as far as the eye could see. Reached by the underpass of which there were plenty as you walked along the front. Really enjoyed my stay and would recommend."
