Villa Birdie

"Located in a suburb of San Sebastián this boutique luxury Villa hotel is a real gem. The owner Blanca is warm and welcoming and you really feel like you are part of a home. She is also a brill guide helping you find the best sports to eat and visit . Villa is decorated to a very high standard befitting its luxury status,rooms are well appointed and vary in size but perfectly fine. Breakfast is lovely with fresh fruit, croissants and egg omelette. Travel into town is easy with excellent buses and takes 14 minutes and they run until midnight or a taxi is 10 euros. Pool is a nice size with plenty of beds and umbrellas .If you are visiting San Sebastián and want a little slice of heaven Villa Birdie is in our view a perfect place to stay and we plan to return one day. "The hotel is perfect and Paloma Blanca is a wonderful hostess, a wonderful cook and a wonderful person and just wonderful in every way possible. She is like queen wonderful on the throne of the island of wonder. She even followed me up to my room to make sure we were all ok and even knocked and came in gave advice about the patio doors, which is something that I was consumed with worry about but she calmed me down and my wife stopped crying. You can have breakfast by the pool which is also wonderful and clean and blue and well kept by Paloma Blanca. The main town is just a few minutes walk away downhill all the way. Would definitely go back."

"Would not recommend based on experience we had that included the following: 1. Blanca, the owner repeatedly made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable for our two-night stay due to very rigid rules with a feeling that we were staying in a horrible mother-in-law’s home. 2. Blanca criticized us for the amount of luggage we had and watched us bring it all in ourselves, reminding us that we had the smallest room and were not going to be receiving breakfast. 3. MAJOR PROBLEM- we had a number of important receipts on the night table that Blanca’s housekeeper threw out. At first, she insisted that the housekeeper did not throw anything out, but after much pleading she finally called her only to discovered that they were put in the garbage. Blanca made my husband go offsite a block away to a dumpster to go through the garbage with her only to recover some of our receipts, the whole time saying that this was not her responsibility and that if they were important, they should have been in the safe. Blanca was very aggressive and yelling (I have videos to prove it), threatened to call the police on us and had her husband who only spoke French come upstairs and yell at us and point fingers in our faces. There was not only zero accountability, there was no apology. Overall, this was the single worst stay we have ever had in over 25 years of traveling. DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES."
