Hotel Arrizul Catedral

"Lots of positives: We liked the location. Everyone on reception was incredibly helpful. The staff we encountered in the breakfast room were fantastic. Breakfast was great, we found everything we wanted and I think if not the staff would have made every effort to provide it. We didn’t encounter queues and food was constantly replenished. The breakfast room was pretty basic. We appreciated the complimentary minibar, diet drinks would be great. Our room was quiet and we appreciated the outdoor space. The negatives: The coffee at breakfast is awful. Regretfully we felt we’d overpaid for the junior suite. It’s an awkward long corridor of a room with very little storage space. It’s showing wear and tear, the fixtures and fittings are pretty basic. We lived partly out of suitcases for 6 days which had to be strategically placed so we didn’t fall over them going to the bathroom at night. After leaving our previous hotel, the bed felt tiny and with just enough space to walk either side. The pillows are terrible. The bedding was two sheets with a duvet sandwiched between, it made me feel uncomfortable and wonder if the duvet is changed for every guest. I feel better when it’s hidden and buttoned into a cover so that I don’t have to think who may have touched it! Whoever cleaned the shower kept leaving the bath mat inside the shower with the shower door closed , I absentmindedly went to pick it out before a shower one day and hit my head, burst my lip and chipped my tooth on the shower door 😂 I can only laugh about it now. The room we had was not value for money and the tariff did not align with this standard of hotel. That said, I think the hotel is a very good option if you book a standard room."

"We had booked two rooms. The first one, located on the second floor, overlooked a roof terrace with a significant view into a residential building. The second one, facing the street, was extremely small. Fortunately, the person at the front desk was very kind, understanding, and attentive. She agreed to upgrade us to a slightly larger room, which we really appreciated. On the other hand, breakfast is served in the basement, in a space that we found frankly unpleasant, and the products offered are quite mediocre. We preferred to cancel the breakfast for the second night and go have it outside: we found a much nicer place, with better products, for a significantly lower price. The decor is banal and without much interest, the shower rooms are small, and the complimentary toiletries are few. The location remains, however, rather good, and the welcome certainly constitutes the positive point of our stay. In the end, despite these few qualities, the rate seems much too high to us considering the rooms, the breakfast, and, more generally, the level of services offered."

"I booked two rooms for two days. Before booking, I contacted the hotel to find out if they could guarantee secure and guarded parking. I pointed out to the receptionist that I would book if I had the certainty of a guarded parking lot with security. They pointed me to a nearby parking lot (Easo) that turned out to be as inconvenient as it was insecure. My criticism, therefore, concerns the professionalism of the receptionist who, in exchange for a 5-star hotel payment (about €2000), provided me with terrible assistance. I would like to emphasize that as soon as I made the payment for the hotel, out of caution, I checked the reviews of the proposed parking lot and noticed the inconsistency with what the receptionist had explained to me; at that point, I contacted them to cancel, but although only a few minutes had passed, my request was denied. I was therefore forced to leave the hotel a day early to avoid vandalism risks, and I am using this review, as I already stated verbally to the hotel, to reiterate their lack of fairness regarding aspects that are important to a customer and of which I had made them aware. It would have been enough for them to tell me that at this time of year in San Sebastian, there are no parking lots with the level of security I needed. As for the rest, the hotel is nice, essential, it certainly costs more than what it offers, but perhaps that concerns the time of year we stayed."
