Hotel Occidental Bilbao

"We had a fantastic stay overall and would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for families. The staff was welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. They were also very accommodating in allowing us to arrange external babysitters for our children in the evening, which made a huge difference for our group and was greatly appreciated. The breakfast was excellent, and we also enjoyed both lunch and dinner at the hotel restaurant. The menu was varied, the food was consistently good, prices were fair, and there was a great kids’ menu. The bar was also a pleasant place to relax in the evening. The only downside was that the restaurant service was consistently very slow, even when it wasn’t busy. We also felt the bar could offer a few more aperitif options, such as simple snacks (nuts, crisps, olives…) and a more extensive cocktail selection. The location worked very well for us: close enough to walk to Bilbao’s Old Town while still being easy to access by car. The pool was a real bonus during the summer and a big hit with the kids. Our only real disappointment concerned the booking experience. We booked several months in advance expecting early booking to be rewarded, but shortly before our stay we noticed that the rates had become lower than the price we had paid. It was frustrating and gave the impression that booking early wasn’t really an advantage. Aside from these points, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return."
