"After staying in several hotels during our trip through Spain and France, Hotel Ercilla ended up being one of our absolute favorites. If I ever return to Bilbao, I wouldn’t even think twice. I’d book this hotel again. The location is outstanding. It’s right in the heart of Bilbao’s elegant Indautxu district, making it incredibly easy to explore on foot. You’re just minutes from Plaza Moyúa, Gran Vía, the city’s premier shopping street, Azkuna Zentroa (Alhóndiga Bilbao), and countless cafés, pintxos bars, and restaurants. Even the Guggenheim Museum, Casco Viejo (Old Town), and the riverside promenade are all within a comfortable walk. We rarely needed transportation because everything felt so accessible. The welcome set the tone for the stay. The doormen were genuinely helpful from the moment we arrived, assisting with our luggage and making us feel immediately at ease. Inside the lobby, guests are welcomed with complimentary water and sweets, a thoughtful touch after a day of sightseeing. Another thing we appreciated was how well everyone spoke English, which made communication effortless. Our room on the sixth floor was spacious, comfortable, and overlooked the hotel’s main entrance. It was quiet despite being in such a central location, allowing us to enjoy a great night’s sleep. The bathroom was equally impressive. The toiletries felt premium, and I especially appreciated the heated towel rack, one of those small details that makes a stay feel just a little more luxurious. The lobby level is another highlight. There’s a stylish bar and restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast, coffee, drinks, or simply unwind after exploring the city. I also loved that they included a dedicated workspace with charging points, perfect for travelers who need to catch up on emails or work remotely. What really stood out was how polished the entire experience felt. From the attentive staff and comfortable rooms to the excellent location and thoughtful amenities, Hotel Ercilla consistently exceeded our expectations. For anyone visiting Bilbao, whether for sightseeing, shopping, or food, I can’t recommend this hotel enough. It offers everything you need for a comfortable stay while putting the city’s best attractions within easy walking distance. It was easily one of the highlights of our trip, and I look forward to staying here again"

"After a long flight from Chicago we were able to check in early. We have a quiet room, a breakfast buffet that is included and the nicest people working here. The hotel restaurant is available for drinks (made from scratch) and the food is very good. The servers take excellent care of you , and we enjoyed our meal over 2 hours, sitting and talking, enjoying our glass of wine, no time constraints. Very enjoyable and relaxing. The breakfast buffet has a wide selection of food to choose from. The rooftop terrace is open in the evening, the views are spectacular and the bar is open, what a wonderful way to end your day in Bilbao Spain. Overall a wonderful experience at this hotel."

"When we arrived at this hotel we were told that they had no booking for us. We later figured out what had happened. We had booked on-line for the night we arrived and also for a week later. The booking system confirmed both our bookings (we had both confirmations) but, unknown to us, the system overwrote the first booking with the second booking. The hotel received only the second booking. Notwithstanding, the man on reception insisted that the hotel was not responsible and that we had made the error. He said that his information could not be wrong. After nearly an hour, he found us a room and we ended up paying more for a much inferior room. In our experience, many other hotels would have been more accommodating, more helpful and more respectful in these circumstances. Surely the booking system is primarily the responsibility of the hotel. We had written confirmation in our hands of the booking but he dismissed it. The room he put us into was very ordinary compared to the one we had a week later (and which we paid to have on the first night there). Some of the other staff were helpful during our stay but we could not get over our frustration of this first encounter. We have learnt not to make two reservations at the same Marriott hotel in the one booking session. After the first reservation, close the booking window and start again for the second one."
