Catalonia Plaza Catalunya

"I very rarely write a review but I do read them! and was slightly concerned reading some recent reviews of the hotel I have just stayed in - Catalonia plaza Catalunya in Barcelona - so I wanted to share my experience as we will most definitely return. Location - perfect, you could not get better and this is echoed in the open top bus tour where they state that ‘Catalunya Placa/Square is the heart of the city’. Right at the top of La Rambla which will take you all the way to the beach, and near the subway, lots of taxis and open top bus route and on top of all the shops and restaurants. The Hotel - I am a HUGE hotel snob and want to stay in hotels nicer than my own home! I have to say I (and my family) were not disappointed. The hotel has very clearly been recently renovated (as I assume it’s an old building!), from the communal reception, bar, restaurant, spa spaces and most definitely the pool area which seems to be a completely new pool, flooring, lovely bar area (serving delicious tapas and other items) and sunbeds, with towels supplied. The room (we had a family room) was stylish, comfortable and seemed brand new. Huge bed, stylish bunk beds for children and such a good shower! We had room 314 overlooking the pool (this is apparently quieter) so no balcony but it wasn’t needed or missed. The tapas I tried at the pool was delicious but otherwise we ate outside of the hotel but seeing other diners the food looked lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. I had a massage with Ana at the spa she was really helpful and this was so relaxing, a lovely experience. All in all I could not recommend the hotel more, you will not be disappointed! Some recommendations- Placa Reial off La Ramblas is perfect for lots of restaurants, casa Candela Cafe off Catalunya Placa, the beach and beach bar and restaurants worth a visit. We loved the market off La ramblas too and the open top bus is a great way to see the city."

"Lovely hotel. Location is amazing. Metro right across the La Plaça de Catalunya Square. Feels very safe. 24 hr reception. McDonald’s across the road. Lidl’s is a short walk away for a bedroom snack tea. Traditional Spanish cafes outside for coffee and croissants . Harbour and beach walkable. Gothic Quarter is walkable too. Make sure you buy tickets for Sagrada Familiar months in advance. Bell boy v helpful with bags. Pool is small but hey you are in a city Center hotel. Great to have a pool! Metro is easy to navigate the city. Enjoy. Perfect hotel."

"This is my absolute favourite hotel - ever! it has everything i need and want. It is literally across the Square from the airport bus stop, it's super clean, the bar/restaurant is classy yet cosy, it has rooms to suit every budget - from basic and inexpensive to the luxurious private pool suites, the perfect base for a shopping spree and to see all the beautiful sights of Barcelona. But, what makes this hotel truly special is the staff. I've yet to find anywhere else that compares to this hotel in regards to staff. I stay here at least twice a year and can't wait to go back."
