"We have visited this hotel a number of times and it never disappoints. It is clean, comfortable and welcoming. The roof terrace is delightful, the breakfast buffet is excellent, the evening meals are very good. It is in a superb location, right next to the ocean, the cable car and the many great restaurants and shops in the old town. The staff could not be more helpful. "

"This was our third time staying at the hotel. Our first visit was over 20 years ago when the hotel had recently opened and then 3 years ago. We love the location in the old town area of Funchal with many restaurants, bars and shops. Also, being close to the bus station and cable car makes getting around the island easy. The hotel is very well maintained, clean and spacious. Our comfortable sea view room overlooked the gardens and the port. Personally we would prefer a walk-in shower rather than an over bath one which can be difficult as mobility declines. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had an excellent choice and we ate lunch poolside a few times which was very good too. Hope to stay again and definitely recommend the Santa Maria."

"Perfect hotel for visiting the city of Funchal - great seafront location, lovely sea view room, excellent food, fantastic staff (welcoming, great service, very professional), poolside bar, spa - what more could you wish for! Everything within easy walking distance, including the marina, the cable car to Monte (do it!); the bus station (very good local bus service); the Yellowbus stop (great for Funchal sightseeing), the old town back streets and restaurants. Can't wait to go back!"
