Cheerful coastal charm
You could hardly ask for a better location than the one Pestana Ocean Bay has managed to snag. Practically on the pebbled shore of Praia Formosa – one of Funchal's most popular beaches – and with sweeping views of the sea as well as the Câmara de Lobos hillside, this setting is second to none.
Spend your days strolling along the seafront, camping out by the large outdoor pool, or using your well-earned me time to flit between the sauna, Turkish bath, and Jacuzzi. Exploring Funchal will be a cinch, too, as the hotel lays on a complimentary shuttle bus to get you there and back. In the city centre you can expect to find plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants alongside the lively atmosphere.
Grab a bite in town or head back to the hotel and check out their foodie offering, which includes a buffet restaurant that deals in generous spread of international and local fare. There're a couple of bars on-site, too, including one pitched up poolside so you can easily quench your thirst on a sunny afternoon.

A popular destination for cruise liners, most passengers head up from the port and along the seafront promenade, which ticks off open-air cafes and bars, and comes with a string of street performers and market sellers. It’s also where you’ll find a statue and museum dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo, the star footballer native to the island. In the town itself,
