"Sadly there are more negatives than positives with this hotel. First there was the issue with the air con not working luckily we had a fan in our room. We requested someone come out and no one arrived. In Voce restaurant, I ordered a tuna skew and this did not arrive and I had to chase this up. After a long wait, The whole meal took three hours. Sabor restaurant - the staff tried to give us someone else's food before we had even ordered. We requested bread and this never arrived. Staff were unclear on what food items they were serving you and keen to remove plates before food was finished. The pool outside our room was filthy. We asked reception for someone to clean this. When it was originally queried and I showed them pics (see pic on review) they said it was just scratched. It was clean when the staff member came out and cleaned it. At the moments bar we asked for dark rum and was told they only had white rum, yet the same day another member of staff gave us dark rum There were flies on the food in the world buffet. See pic of flies on the croissants. This could be avoided by using nets. A member of staff was very rude over the phone when we asked them a question The WiFi is hit and miss whether it worked or not. In Oishii restaurant a member of staff said we could take our half drunk bottle of wine back to our room. Another staff member then said we weren't allowed to take it to our room. In the world buffet restaurant my husband got asked if he wanted his chicken well done. This is not the sort of question you ask someone when having chicken it's usually steak that you'd query how you like it cooked There was no adults only pool and only informed of this when we arrived. The hotel is more geared for families. The positives were: Oishii had really nice food and very good service, apart from the issue with not being able to take the wine back to our room. The sea pool and views were lovely. The room was clean and no issues with it other than the air con. Overall there are much nicer hotels in Madeira with better service. I wouldn't go here again and this definitely isn't the standard expected from a five star hotel. We travel a lot and this is the worst five star hotel we have been to. The service was the worst aspect."

"Really good food and drinks. The staff were very welcoming and made us feel at home. The only downside is the location of the resort , as it’s a bit isolated. You’ll likely need to rent a car if you want to explore the surrounding area or get to other places."

"We have just checked out. I’ve read the recent reviews and whilst we haven’t experienced all of it, the theme seems to be correct. We were preferred guests- there is no separate check in, we must have been lucky as we didn’t wait that long. I asked for the concierge to get some restaurants booked and to be fair we managed to get something for every night. The service is not great. Our room card didn’t work and so we returned to reception, they didn’t give us a towel cards, another return. A call for towels and toilet paper that had not been provided took 6 hours and 2 calls. As most have said the property is stunning. We had a junior suite sea view which was amazing. I called for a buggy on check out which (surprise surprise) didn’t arrive. Called again, it arrived but late and our car was waiting to take us to the airport. On check out there was no “how was your stay?” Maybe she was too scared to ask???"
