Hotel Metropole

"An absolutely charming hotel located right in the city center. Many rooms offer a magnificent view of the square and the fortress. The windows protect you from the noise of the traffic and the crowd that is on the sidewalks and the square. The staff is very attentive and speaks perfect English (for those like me who do not speak Portuguese). The breakfast is hearty and varied, a very warm atmosphere in this slightly quirky hotel with its old late 19th-century furniture and its beautiful shimmering cushions..."

"The location seem perfect for what we needed, hotel looked good and close to the seafront. We had a very warm welcome and checked into our room, it was clean. As we had a room facing the square knew that there would be street noise. Nice little table a chairs outside our doors. The hotel entrance rather small and up some steps, not easy with bags, then you had a lift, a very small lift at that. took two people and three suitcases. The room looked good and clean, but the air con did not work, not a good selection of tea and coffee - the tray was found in the wardrobe. No milk to have with the tea or coffee. Only one bottle of water for two people and no choice of water - just still, no sparkling/gas. The shower was difficult to operate and the temperature would go hot and cold, the attachment on the wall for the shower head was wobbly. Breakfast was help yourselves, not a vey good selection, coffee was terrible, almost stale - undrinkable for two coffee drinkers. The only nice touch was the Prosecco at breakfast. If we were staying another night the issues we found would of been brought to the hotels attention. We would not choice to stay here again."

"Great friendly check in process. Hotel is centrally located. If driving stop right out front even though there are no parking spots, otherwise you’re doing a ten minute loop."
