Hotel do Chiado

Located in the historic yet trendy Chiado Baixa district of Lisbon, Hotel do Chiado has a great central location that’ll have you within shouting distance of some of the city’s most famous sights. The hotel’s interiors are comfortable and elegant, and some of the rooms have private terraces with panoramic views of the castle and the river that are hard to beat.

Housed in the former Armazéns do Chiado –a historical building that was a glamorous department store in a past life – the hotel shares its lodgings with a shopping centre, so you won’t have to wander far if you fancy a rummage around the shops. There’s a metro station in the basement, too, so you couldn’t be closer to the public transport links here. If you feel like getting your steps in, there’s plenty within walking distance, too. Rossio Square and the Santa Justa Lift are both within about 5 minutes’ stroll, while you can make it to St. George’s Castle in about 15 minutes on foot.

A generous breakfast buffet is served each morning, where you can fill up on continental options, as well as traditional Portuguese pastries. The rooftop bar, with its panoramic views of the city, is a great place for a cocktail or a light dinner. Food-wise, you’ll be spoiled for choice in this part of town, with loads of great cafés, bars, and restaurants. Wander the 10 minutes over to the Bairro Alto district and you’ll find some of the best nightlife the city has to offer.
