"The hotel is in an amazing location. Bang in the centre of the city with immediate access to the U2 and U6 Underground lines. The entrance to the U-Bahn is less than a 15-second walk from the front door of the hotel. If you buy the ABC zone Tourist Pass at the airport (you can do this when waiting on your bags - there are machines in the baggage hall) you can get to this hotel from the airport in about 20 or so minutes. Alight from the FEX Airport Express train at Potsdamer Platz and change to the U2 line. This was a really pleasant transfer process. Again, returning to the airport was a similar affair.
The atmosphere in the hotel lobby is really pleasant and calm. There is a cocktail bar and restaurant – the food and drinks are good but usual hotel prices. The concierge desk will take your bags and look after them if you arrive early or don’t fly until after check out and want to explore more. The front desk staff and concierge team are excellent without exception. KLM lost my bags on the way to Berlin and they arranged the re-delivery of these for me (bags arrived after 48 hours at 11pm). Front desk took delivery of these and brought them to my room. When I was chatting to the concierge team I listened to another request from an elderly couple who tasked them with finding hearing aid chargers. Again – nothing was a problem for the team and I thought this was amazing. Some concierge teams would have just said no to a request like this. The people who work in this hotel are a huge plus to the hotel. Friendly and cannot do enough for you. Management take note – continue to look after your people! <3
We had an executive twin room on the 6th floor (6076). The room was a newly refurbished room (6th floor are the refurbished executive rooms). We had access to the executive lounge also on the 1st floor which I will discuss later. The room was well appointed and very clean. The windows in the room could be opened about 2 inches and the room had Air Conditioning. We had reason to complain about the AC – it stops cooling about 0030 each night and did not come back on until 0500. I complained to the front desk about this, and they were unable to override the settings on this. If temperature during the night is important to you, please take note of this. I imagine this is very problematic during the summer months! The room had a mini fridge but this was pre-stocked with snacks on a sensor – you touch it you buy it and it will appear on your bill at check out. Ask the front desk to empty this for you if you have hungry kids. There is a Lidl supermarket that is walking distance from the hotel. Beds were comfortable, I personally did not like the pillows. Bathroom was modern and marble and had a night light that activated with movement which was good for getting in and out of bed during the night.
The executive lounge was accessible using my room card. I had to get this checked by reception – so go ask if it doesn’t work. Between 7am and 10am you can eat breakfast here as it joins on to the main restaurant. Between 10/11am and 6pm there are free tea, coffee and soft drinks with some snacks. Between 6pm and 8pm there is a buffet but short of having multiple plates of the same food this would not replace dinner. The lounge was open until 10pm and you could take a drink to your room if you arrived too late. The staff here were great and I tipped multiple times here (I’m British! – IYKYK).
Breakfast was in the main restaurant between 6:30 and 10am weekdays and 7 to 11am weekends. The usual hot breakfast items were available along with pastries, fruit and breads. A good selection was available. There was an egg station but it appeared when we were there it was not staffed properly and it was difficult to get these made to order. Hilton take note here! If someone is making eggs, make that their only job – it’s a really simple thing to do that really starts the day in a positive way for folks. Coffee from the machines was good. We didn’t use the restaurants for other meals.
The hotel has a gym and health spa – we didn’t use these but heard good things from other guests about them.
Short version:
Good – the hotel staff, executive lounge and the lobby area.
Improve – the AC in the rooms (newly refurbished room with busted AC?), Eggs at Breakfast.
Would I stay here again? No, not until the AC is known to be fixed. Sleep is the bare minimum expectation for a hotel room, and I was awake every night to open the window when the AC died. Sorry Hilton your people here are amazing, the AC and technology aren’t good and you let the amazing people down that work here.
Some of the Hilton Website gallery images of this hotel are photoshopped and some of the picutres make the rooms look much brigher than they actually are in reality."
