Casablanca Inn

"On arriving at the hotel, we were impressed with the reception and the surrounding grounds, so we were looking forward to seeing our room. After travelling in a very rickety lift, we opened our door to a room we were stunned to see. The paint work was peeling off making the room looked uncared for, the bathroom was the same with the tap in the sink being close to leaving its moorings. We had a rail for our clothes in a recess with 10 coat hangers, no drawers ( only a small console drawer) cupboards or shelves. We had to live out of our suitcases for the week as we had no where to put smaller clothing items. The breakfasts were ok and the staff pleasant. We sat around the pool but had to leave within ten minutes due to ants running over our feet. I was bitten every night leaving sores on my feet, arms and face probably due to the plants climbing up the walls outside our room. Every night was uncomfortable with air con on but we had to wrap up due to the insects. ( it was 28c) The hotel is close to some lovely restaurants and within 10 minutes of the beach."

"I stayed here for two weeks at the end of September on a package booked through Jet2. The hotel is in a great location with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops nearby. I stayed in room 209 which had a sea view. The first night I had a problem with ants in my room, I reported it to the receptionist and within a few minutes the problem was sorted successfully and didn't recur. My room was spacious but due to the style of the decor, I found it very dark and I needed all the lights on whenever I was in the room. The remote control for the air con did not work so I had to switch it on or off on the main unit. However it did work when my key card wasn't inserted so I had it on when I was out too. Unfortunately I had to switch it off if I wanted to sit on the balcony as it was incredibly noisy. Like many hotel rooms, there was insufficient storage - only one drawer and limited hanging space and nowhere to store a suitcase. There is a fancy coffee machine that uses pods, 4 were supplied but not replaced (a sign said you could buy them from reception) but as I was staying for 2 weeks, this felt mean. I unplugged the machine and used my travel kettle which worked better for me. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked well with plenty of hot water. Bedding and towels were changed several times during my stay. I had booked B&B and the buffet breakfast suited me with plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurt and lovely bread. There were cooked options too, but I can't comment on them as I didn't try them. Things were constantly replenished during breakfast and there always seemed to be plenty of choice. The pool is very small with only 10 sunloungers. But there is additional space on the seating area on the first floor. The pool isn't particularly attractive and the steps leading into the pool are very slippery and not suitable for anyone elderly or disabled. They could do with replacing really. I never had a problem getting a lounger by the pool as even though the hotel was full, it was never too busy there. The bar area was lovely and was always busy. I enjoyed coming back to the hotel after my evening meal to have a drink in the bar. I would stay here again if I were to return to Monte Gordo."

"Nice hotel with extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Nicely located, just minutes from the beach and the centre of Monte Gordo. Relaxed atmosphere. Limited but nice breakfast. Didn't dine in the hotel but there are plenty of good eateries nearby with a special mention to the Blue Parrot just across the road. Rooms are clean reasonably spacious with differing views over square or street. Small pool with limited space for sunbeds. Lots of guests seem to be repeat customers. Majority of guests seem to be of the older generation. Noise levels were low apart from the last night when an aggressive guest (younger at about late 20s) seemed to think it was ok to have a heated shouting discussion with the night porter. Guest was in the wong, the porter was merely doing his job in keeping the hotel secure. All in all a very nice stay in a pleasant hotel in a very nice resort."
