Ferragudo Holidays
Peaceful and pretty-as-a-picture
On the eastern side of the River Arade estuary in the Algarve, Ferragudo is a village lined with white-washed fishermen's houses along steep cobbled streets. You’ll find handfuls of restaurants and bars in the main square and quayside where you can order authentic Portuguese dishes and plenty of fresh seafood. Find a seat alongside the locals, perhaps joining them to sip ginja, a Portuguese liqueur.
Ferragudo has two sandy beaches nearby. Praia da Angrinha is smaller and closer to the town, but a short walk will lead you to Praia Grande, a long, wide beach with tell-tale Algarve cliffs, caves, and arches.
Silves is just a 25-minute drive away, with scenic river walks along the River Arade and a well-preserved Moorish castle on top of a hill. You can stroll up the steep cobbled streets to reach it (perhaps avoiding the hottest part of the day in the height of an Algarve summer) then reward yourself with another sample of ginja on your return.
