Monte Dourado

"Stayed four nights at the Monte Dourado resort in Carvoeiro. Location was perfect. Sitting high on top of a hill, offered gorgeous ocean views yet close enough to walk to the town below. Plenty of restaurant options, lots of shopping, & a beach a 5 min walk away. The hill to get up & down to the town is steep but do-able. Ladies we love our sandals matching every outfit, but sneakers is the way to go if you plan on walking everywhere, even to the beaches. Most of the nearby beaches have a lot of stairs which can get slippery. We rented a car & the resort offered free convenient parking. You can get away with no car & use Ubers as well. The condo was spacious & had 2 bedroom & 2 bathrooms & was amazing. Beds were comfy. Perfect size kitchen, great size bathrooms & bedrooms. A/C worked great. There was a washer which was really convenient, no dryer. But provided a clothes rack to air dry clothes. Plenty of closet space. Cute patio to sit & have coffee, drinks or food in the am or evening. We were right next to the pool. There is a noise curfew, however, there were a group of people at the pool every night until 3-4am. They were really loud. I never complained, they were having a good time. The complex is well maintained. I felt very safe there as well. There are many other beaches a 10 min car drive away we visited as well. Make sure you take a sea cave tour. Beautiful experience. I would definitely stay here again."

"Do not book unless you know exactly what you are booking. This was our second time to stay here and we booked a superior 2 bed sea view apartment. The accommodation this year was definitely not superior. The sea view was very Ltd partially blocked by plants. The apartment standard was not good. The mattress on the main bed was disgusting. The light in our bedroom was not working. There were several sockets hanging from the walls. Overall the apartment was not clean. The floors were filthy and the mop and brushes left to use were dirty. The cleaning was pretty much non existent. The balcony furniture was cheap and needed replacing. The airer for the clothes was broken. All in all we will never stay there again. I did complain but was offered another apartment that was actually worse. I would advise people not to book with here unfortunately. We paid alot of money for below standard accommodation."

"Lovely relaxed break! Pool was really quiet, even though it was the school holidays. We often had it to ourselves! Nice walk into town down the hill. Lovely little town with a nice beach and loads of good eateries. The reception closes at 9pm, so we had to find our key via a lock box, which was a bit tricky, but the night security guy was really helpful. Apartment itself was massive! Had a fully fitted kitchen and a dishwasher and washing machine. We were left to our own devices, which was great. No loud music blaring or enforced fun activities - although if you ask at reception there are loads of fun things to do around the area. We enjoyed a trip to the water park, which was only a short taxi ride away. There’s an amazing bakery in the village - highly recommend for breakfast!"
