The Westin Algarve Salgados Beach Resort

"The Westin Salgados Beach Resort was a great surprise. Fantastic location, right on the beachfront. Breakfast was a highlight—plenty of choice and excellent service. The rooms are modern, comfortable, and very well kept. The gym is spacious and well equipped, with high-quality machines from Life Fitness, plus a range of fitness classes led by knowledgeable trainers. Overall, a great experience and I’d definitely come back."

"Good place to stay if you don't want to break the bank in the Algarve in the summer, yet still book a nice, up-to-date looking hotel. We were here in the HEAT of July (it was 100 degrees) for a night to see friends nearby and didn't spend much time at the hotel. The AC was great, btw. I will say, it does well... very busy during our stay. Our room was nice but rather small and impersonal... it felt like it was set in a nice, mini-condo building. The location is better than most hotels in this town... as it is right on the beach... or as close as you can build to it. There is a grassy wide berm that separates you from the sand but they lock the gate to the path at night for security's sake. Overall... good decor, lots of pools, parking was easy though it came at a cost. The front desk staff was just fine, too. It was the peak of the summer season and usually we would have opted for a hotel that was one or two notches nicer, but the prices were insane. Decent value for the money... just not earth-shaking. But you could do a lot worse. Tip: We had a really pleasant breakfast (which was not included in our rate here) at the nearby W Algarve's outdoor patio, which is a much cooler hotel. Alas, it is poorly situated facing the W Residences so it's a bit claustrophobic in layout. For breakfast purposes, however, it was aces. I would definitely stay here again if I came down for a night or two again and only IF the price were right. I just wouldn't make it the focal point of a vacation."

"While the staff including front desk staff and PR manager were lovely and very accommodating including Martina, the overall experienced was soured for the following reasons. Booked the Marriott Algarve almost 11 months in advance being a brand new property and booked the presidential suite at a good rate. As the trip came closer, the Marriott Salgados cluster personnel started e mailing forcing a move to the Westin without providing any clear explanation as to why. Eventually after several back and forth messages, the Director of rooms participated in the communication and informed that Marriott is being shut down for the winter season and the only choice was to either move to a 3 bedroom suite at the Westin or cancel the booking. Firstly, don't accept bookings for the winter season if you can't keep the hotel open. Secondly, the Westin was nowhere near as nice. The room had climate control issues. It was either too hot when in heat mode or too cold in November. The bathrooms etc. are not 5 star caliber at all and neither are the finishes even though the hotel is categorized as a 5 star. I'm a titanium elite and lifetime platinum elite having stayed at several Marriott's globally. The director of rooms assured to personally address all issues during the visit in agreement for a transfer to Westin only to find out that he was on vacation when we arrived. Overall an okay experience with Westin but not what we were hoping form. Grounds and property is nice. I insisted that they transfer our booking to the W Algarve but they refused although W would've been more equivalent to the Marriott. The only other option they gave was to cancel and lose out on the great rate from 6 months ago. Westin is better location for beach in the summer but not in the Winter."
