Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

"I spent five nights at this amazing hotel. It far exceeded my expectations! My room was in the adjacent Residence Inn but all the facilities, dining, bar and fitness suite, were in the main block of the hotel. The quality of the food was exceptional, hugely comprehensive and above all - delicious! There was a massive variety of different types of food to cater for everybody's taste. This was for both the breakfast and evening meals, both on an "all-you-can-eat" buffet style with drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic included. There is also a ninth (9) floor bar and Mondi Restaurant which has an outside terrace with stunning views over Schiphol Airport and much of the local area, the sunsets were amazing! (Ideal for plane-spotters!). The hotel is located close to a couple of major roads however you wouldn't even know they were there as there is virtually no noise from passing vehicles. Passengers arriving by plane at the airport have a free shuttle bus which runs at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour from the airport for most of the day and takes 10 minutes. The bus departs from bus stop "A12" at Schiphol Airport and has a destination screen at the front with the name of the hotel on it. The return journey departs the hotel reception back to the airport at 00 and 30 mins past the hour, however it costs 5 euros to return back to the airport. I was there on a cycling holiday and the hotel has a bike hire facility with a large number of bikes available, (hire is purchased at reception). They are the traditional 3 gear "Dutch type" bikes which are more than adequate for the hugely impressive cycle network that has been set up in the Netherlands. The whole area in that part of the Netherlands is flat and the only time there is any climbing to do is when the path goes over a bridge or under a tunnel. The 3 gear bike is perfectly suited for this. Every major road has a separate cycle path and the minor roads have marked cycle lanes too. There are also cycle paths and most traffic lights at busy junctions have a separate button to activate the junction for cycles. It is a perfect way to explore the countryside. All the roads and paths were maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Virtually all establishments have cycle storage racks outside. I travelled about 370km, (230miles), and the bike performed perfectly with no problems and was well maintained and came fitted with a bike lock. I strongly recommend the bike hire from the hotel! My room in the next-door Residence Inn was clean, bright and fitted with a large tv, WIFI, kitchen and dishwasher. There is also a large swimming pool which was clean and maintained to a high standard, it was very warm water, about 1.40 metres deep though-out with no shallow end and no lifeguard, (although there were emergency plungers to alert staff), and there was also a small shallow, (38cm), children's play pool. Perhaps the most surprising element at this hotel complex was the Boeing 747 jumbo Jet in the garden grounds! There is one daily tour of the aircraft at 11:00hrs where you can have a look around inside the plane and even sit in the captains seat! The tour cost 3 euros each, (tickets bought at reception there is lift access to the plane for the mobility impaired . (I didn't think the urban-style street-type art that covered the aircraft was in keeping with hotel though - I my view it would have better in the Corendon or KLM livery, but that is just my personal opinion). Public transport - there is a bus stop with regular services just outside the hotel on the main road which links to a bus-interchange about 1km away. The nearest railway station is at the airport. There are no tram-lines close to the hotel. In conclusion, this hotel far exceeded my expectations by a long way and for everything it provides it is excellent value for money! The staff were very helpful and friendly and were a credit to the hotel. I choose this hotel at random when I was looking for accommodation and am not connected with it in anyway but cannot believe how lucky I was to find this hugely impressive hotel. It was a wonderful stay and I look forward to another visit as it will be my first choice next time. Thank-you!"

"beautiful hotel, the lobby is very nice, the view from the rooms is good suprised its 4 star hotel because it feels like a 5 for the nicer rooms the food in the restaurant is excellent its a buffet with a wide range of food, it also gives access to unlimited heineken or wine / cola etc, it is pricey to have it every night however. theres a mini shop in the lobby with essentials / drinks / snacks etc, again it is a bit pricey. there is a pool in the hotel with a sauna and steam room its easy to get to the city centre, theres a transfer bus which goes to the airport every 15 mins, then you can get the train or bus from there. the staff are very friendly and speak english, we arrived a few hours before check in with our suitcase, but they can take your suitcase and lock it in a room for you so you can do other things in a meantime. the bathtub in the hotel room facing the television was a very nice touch, very big spacious rooms and the walk in shower is very good also"

"The hotel placed a €531.85 pre-authorisation on my Visa card at check-in. My actual bill of €381.85 was charged separately and paid in full, but the €531.85 was never released — it has been held for over three weeks. Staff confirmed it was their system error and promised repeatedly to return it, yet nothing happened and promised callbacks never came. Still dont have my money back! Talking to Guest Relations Manager, he was quite friendly, but always found excuses. So no trust at all, very bad problemsolving. Dont give your creditcard (well they actually wont let you check in without, so better never go there)."
